PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
The primary function of the Control Technician (CT) is support glass mat operations through troubleshooting and repair of electrical, electronics, and instrumentation devices associated with the line automation system, as well as supporting ancillary utility systems/services. Support all instrumentation and controls field devices through regular calibrations and repairs. Works closely with maintenance team and controls engineer in daily support by providing electrical/electronic troubleshooting support and the preventative/predictive maintenance of electrical & electronic equipment. This position reports to the Maintenance Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Responsible for the troubleshooting of PLC’s input and outputs (Digital and Analog) related to safety, automation, and control system field devices
• Understands and performs electrical repairs to 480 volt 3 phase systems (wiring of motors, VFDs, power disconnects, install conduit repairs/demolitions, 3 phase wirings, and motor testing)
• Conduct troubleshooting and calibration of thermocouples, RTD’s, level sensing devices, thickness detectors, consistency transmitters, load cells and other electrical/electronic devices.
• Conduct preventive maintenance, resetting and troubleshooting of VFD’s (Variable Frequency Drives)
• Perform electrical troubleshooting of plant equipment, machinery, utilities, and safety systems Both high voltage 480 volt 3 phase, and low voltage 24VDC) • Provide support to the Engineering department on new installations of electronic control equipment.
• Assist management in root-cause analysis on losses related to electrical/electronic failures.
• To closely work with the other Maintenance department crafts to support initiatives that improves equipment reliability.
• Report all EH&S incidents – Injuries, Near Misses, First Aid, Environmental and Property/Equipment Damage.
• Ensure adherence to waste management and recycling responsibilities.
• Participate in Incident & Near Miss Investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions.
• Participate in the development, understanding and review of related Job Safety Analysis and/or Standard Operating Procedures.
• Communicates downtime or issues in daily shift handover meetings to verify effective handoff of information and activities
• Further develop skill set of crew electricians
Schedule: (7pm-7am) , however new Technicians will temporarily work Day Shift (7:00am-3:00pm) during the new hire 45-60 day training period.
• Minimum of 2- year degree in Electrical/Electronic discipline and/or 5 years prior experience in a continuous manufacturing environment
• Thorough knowledge of AC/DC drive systems, Power distribution systems including switch gear components, Servo Motor Equipment and programming, Ethernet Networking systems, HMI and PLC connectivity & Troubleshooting, Electrical & Electronic systems integration, Electro-Mechanical design and troubleshooting
• Annual Arc Flash training
• Good working knowledge of mechanical equipment and systems operations.
• Familiarity with MS Office applications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• May require extended periods on your feet
• May require frequent stair climbing and working from heights (ladders and mobile platforms)
• Ability to work in various temperature extremes and outdoors
• May require frequent bending, stopping, pulling or working in awkward positions.
• Ability to work flexible schedules as to fit the needs of the business
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Areas of the manufacturing plant are not temperature controlled; dust, fumes, and high noise areas >80db are present inside plant areas. Manufacturing processes involve fiberglass dust. Moving equipment such as fork lifts travel throughout the facility. May be required to work outdoors in various temperature extremes and elements.
