    Industrial Controls Technician

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Control Technician will assist with the development and implementation of World Class Manufacturing (WMC) projects, production, processing methods and controls while supporting operations and mentoring maintenance personnel.  Will provide leadership in the implementation and support of Plant Automation, Electrical and Database systems.  The Automation Technologist provides support across a broad range of subjects with focus on hydraulics, PLC programming / troubleshooting, and automation programming / troubleshooting.  This position will assist on all maintenance repairs and services.  They also would provide assistance with the day-to-day training of the maintenance departmental personnel, while being able to address and evaluate any unforeseen tasks that may arise with little or no guidance.

    Required Qualifications

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES

    • Ensure that CertainTeed’s standards of safety, quality and reliability are built into power distribution and control solutions.
    • Technical support and enhancement of
    • PLC based process control systems
    • PLC based supervisory systems
    • Plant data communication networks
    • Plant electrical systems
    • Coordinate automation projects with responsibility for technical content, cost management and on-time completion.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with key suppliers for certain instrumentation and process control systems. Manage and guide contractors, consultants and suppliers.
    • Ensure full documentation of all projects and systems.
    • Plan the overall operation of the automation and electrical areas and ensure achievement of goals and objectives either directly or through subordinate’s staff.
    • Provide input into planning and scheduling projects and prepare capital expenditures as required.
    • Works closely with the Production, Electrical and Maintenance Managers.
    • Comply with all CertainTeed’s EHS Policies and show Demonstrate Leadership.
    • Lead in machine guarding annual evaluations for maintenance and facilities Perform a variety of tasks, which require a thorough knowledge of wiring techniques, wiring tools, and equipment
    • Work from schematic, wiring diagrams, rough sketches, or manuals. Test various electrical circuits with a variety of test equipment.
    • Calibrate equipment in accordance with their particular specifications.
    • Configure and troubleshoot PLC systems.
    • Assist in creation of Preventive and Autonomous maintenance standards to improve overall up time.
    • Perform advanced mechanical repairs and adjustments to improve reliability.
    • Perform intermediate to advanced troubleshooting of Fluid power systems including reading schematics and help train other employees.

    Participate in training regarding maintenance related topics including safety, electricity, fluid power, fabrication, equipment specific training.  Develop and execute training for maintenance employees with a focus on developing new skills.

    Additional Description

    MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

    • Associates degree in Electrical, Computer Science or Electronic Engineering or the equivalent training and experience to have a comprehensive knowledge of the practices, procedures and regulations associated with process control technology.
    • 5 years of experience in maintenance of PLC based supervisory and control systems.
    • Advanced Experience with Siemens Control systems and communication protocol.
    • Experience in electrical, process control, instrumentation, automation, and computer and data communication systems.
    • Understanding of integrated automation and information systems in a manufacturing environment.
    • Team player with good interpersonal skills to operate effective in a team environment
    • Innovative and initiative abilities to provide leadership.

    PREFERRED OR DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS **(**List any further qualifications you would prefer the ideal candidate to have)

    • ASEE, plus 5 years of industrial plant electrical and automation design experience.
    • Experience with Siemens Control Systems and Communication networks.
    • Experience with AutoCAD to generate electrical drawings.
    • Previous experience in concrete technology and processes.
    • Familiar with variable speed drives and servo systems

    FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

    Assists in maintaining set parameters and makes recommendations for budgetary expenditures.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Works in a manufacturing plant environment with exposure to dust, chemicals, temperature changes and noise. Plant is a 24-hour, 7 day a week operation and work hours may vary depending on business needs.  Occasional long hours and weekend and holiday work may be required.  May travel as needed, usually via airplanes and rental cars.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Must be able to spend significant amount of time on plant floor.  Job requires bending, stooping, climbing, entering confined spaces, navigating rough terrain and infrequent lifting of up to 50lbs.  Must be able to wear mandated personal protective equipment per areas accessed.
