Job Goals: Efficiently performs the operation, monitoring and troubleshooting of all Coating & and Laminating machines. Ensures the machines being ran are producing a quality product in an efficient manner. Acts as the department supervisor in the absence of the Production Supervisor. Essential Responsibilities of the Position (includes the following; other responsibilities may be assigned): • Assuming responsibility for the quality of the goods produced one’s machine on a regular and on-going basis. • Ability to read, comprehend and follow the relevant procedures of the department. • Ability to write new or modify existing procedures. • Taking a lead role in keeping the coating head area clean and safe by following applicable housekeeping and safety procedures and ensuring that those reporting indirectly do so. • Leading other operators in and as necessary, personally executing roll changes on the machine. • Performing additional duties as assigned by the Production Supervisor or others in a responsible position. • Works well under minimal supervision, accepting complex assignments from the Production Supervisor that may involve some creativity. This includes assignments that involve several steps and significant innovation. Such assignments may involve interaction with ones outside the department. • Maintain exemplary attentiveness to and respond appropriately to all aspects of or situations on the job during the course of the shift. This includes the direction and scheduling of activities and break periods/meal period rotations of others in one’s own charge. • Communicate in depth issues clearly and accurately during the change-over process with the next shift Lead Operator and employees. • Report unsafe conditions or acts to the Production Supervisor and perform any correction possible. • Directing and assisting with clean-up, set-up and other functions associated with job changes. • Maintain a superior attendance record. • Provide training and direction to operators of similar or less experience. • Assuming the essential functions of an Operator when necessary. • Taking initiative to suggest and implement (with approval) changes to the current standard operating procedures or practices so that the department efficiency, safety, or morale is improved. This includes listening to and guiding the improvement suggestions from less experienced operators. • Ability to fill out all department paperwork assigned and able to complete all electronic data entries to software programs such as Excel and SAP. This includes knowing how to handle all routine situations and asking for help or additional guidance as necessary. Quality: • Demonstrated ability to operate all workstations on Lines 1 through 4, including start-up, normal operation and shut down. • Assumes responsibility for the quality of material produced as well as responsible for the results when directing others. • Performs real time quality control testing for all Coating and Laminating production according to applicable procedures or work instructions. This includes but not limited to: UV transmission, surface resistivity, optical density, reflectivity, haze adhesion and scratch resistance of scratch-resistant coating, curl and peel strength per PSTC-1. • Investigates nonconforming materials including lot number and materials used analysis through SAP. • Conducts root cause analysis for special causes of lost production and/or scrap events. • Provides real time process trouble shooting support to all of Coating and Laminating. • Supports Quality Assurance, R&D, and Process Engineering for special testing requirements including laboratory draw-downs to test the quality of components used to make products and experimental coatings.
• Performs visual inspection of products and be able to grade them according to visual standards. • Performs routine calibration of production test equipment such as optical densitometers. • Maintains accurate production, test, and materials records and retains as needed. • Perform QC audits of internal Solar Gard processes and procedures. Non-Essential Responsibilities of the Position: • Clear any coating defects on all standard products without assistance from another operator. Clear coating defects, as possible, on new products. • Ability to handle directing the operations of all coating and laminating machines continuously and without constant supervision and attendance. • Ability to quickly start up all standard products with occasional input from superiors or other resources. • Knowing the constructions of all of the products typically ran, know where to find and how to use product construction resource material. Asking for help or additional guidance as necessary. • Ability to investigate and solve most routine coating and web handling problems. This includes knowing when to suggest support from the Maintenance Department and communicating exact nature of the problem. Essential Requirements for the Position: • High School Diploma or GED required. One or two years of college or four-year military service strongly preferred. • Ability to lift 50 lbs. • Vision correctable to 20/20. • No color blindness. • Ability to work in a clean room environment. • Ability to work in a solvent/chemical environment. • Ability to work overtime and weekends.
