What’s the job?

The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for investigating and problem-solving short and long-term assigned area reliability issues utilizing World Class Manufacturing (WCM) techniques and principles. The position creates and leads the Preventive Maintenance (PM) program by rationalizing maintenance planning activities with the maintenance teams within the assigned area(s) to drive and improve sustainable plant reliability in a manner consistent with CertainTeed Gypsum’s Vision, Mission, Values, and Objectives (VMVO).

The Seattle Manufacturing Facility has two manufacturing lines and three primary production areas (Line 1, Line 2, Stucco Preparation Area) with additive and auxiliary areas.

  • Responsible for all assigned area machinery

  • Provides an accident-free worksite while maintaining quality products and services with a goal of world-class yield, availability, and reliability

  • Responsible for planning, evaluating, organizing, and implementing assigned installation, maintenance, and repair activities and coordinating with other departments to assure minimum downtime for production and maximum safety of employees

  • Trains mechanics on technical issues, maintenance instructions, and implements countermeasures

  • Performs root cause analysis and implements efficient and effective countermeasures

  • Creates and drives PM program that ensures high-quality standards

  • Partners with the Production Department to resolve identified issues (i.e. process, safety, reliability, cost-savings, etc.)

  • Partners with Maintenance Department to develop PM programs that drive improved and sustained reliability and resolve identified issues (i.e. process, safety, reliability, cost-savings, etc.)

  • Interacts with all levels of plant and Central employees to secure appropriate resources to plan and implement projects in a timely manner

  • Works closely with all stakeholders to coordinate approved process changes (mechanical, technical, safety, etc.) using the change management system

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline or equivalent experience

  • Excellent problem solving capabilities and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks.

  • Collaborative and supportive of Plant and Central initiatives

  • Good written and oral communication

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Mechanical knowledge and understanding of commonly used machinery: conveyors, feeders, mixers, dryers, pumps, etc.
