The Manufacturing Superintendent provides direct supervision of production operations to meet safety, quality, service, and cost objectives across all shifts. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include employee training and development; planning, coordinating, assigning, and directing work; performance management; recognition; addressing complaints and resolving issues as they arise. The incumbent works within a multiple department framework of established standard practices and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Responsible for the health and safety of all direct reports. This includes, overseeing the different work areas and ensuring that immediate corrective actions are taken in case of discrepancies, and observing and changing employee attitudes toward safety. Ensures that all safety standards are met to maintain an accident free work environment.
Works with process/manufacturing engineering to implement and sustain a visual factory management (VFM) system in all critical work centers.
Accountable for participating in and leading Lean Manufacturing projects/events that lead to increased productivity and/or reduced lead times.
Coordinates the implementation of the 5S program. Responsible for sustainment of 5S and maintains a safe, organized, and clean production operational area.
Responsible for meeting the production schedule and shipping deadlines provided by the production planner. Meets OEE (Overall equipment efficiency), PPMH (Pieces per men hour), labor efficiency and OTD (On time delivery) goals in a weekly basis. Accountable for meeting the setup time for all critical pieces of equipment. Works with process/ manufacturing engineering to execute SMED (Single-Minute Exchange of Die) and minimize change over times.
Accountable for achievement of scrap and green waste goals.
Motivates, supports, and provides guidance to production personnel as needed.
Maintains high morale and a positive attitude, good communication, interpersonal skills and employee development through training and involvement.
Identifies conditions that vary from the standard and alerts others for resolution. He/she may participate in special operational improvement projects.
Communicates regularly with the Plant Manager regarding problems or issues impacting production, primarily focusing on safety, quality, service, and cost.
Establishes priorities, participates in short and long-term planning. Provide substantial input and assistance for the budget regarding manning, supplies, equipment, and repairs.
Accountable for reaching monthly budget objectives for his/her area.
Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustments of machines.
Works with the site HR Manager, Sr. HR & Safety Specialist and EHS Engineer in meeting or exceeding Federal, State, and local requirements and goals.
Responsible for conducting the monthly EHS training of manufacturing employees and attends monthly EHS Steering Committee meetings.
Ensures adequate schedules and staffing needs in coordination with HR Department
Assures proper production reporting on the SAP system.
Accountable for maintaining manufacturing work order routings and piece rates for all lines.
Provides back-up assistance for the Plant Manager as needed.
Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of products.
Develops employees within manufacturing to provide coverage for key positions during illness and vacations.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 3-5 years of progressive and/or manufacturing related experience is required.
Lean Manufacturing and/or Hazwoper training are preferred.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a necessity.
Six Sigma experience is a plus
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office
SAP experience is desirable
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to obtain a First aid certification
