    Position summary

    Position Description

    Job Summary

    The successful candidate will be responsible for Abrasives R&D projects in grinding and surface finishing. The candidate will work with his/her manager, various R&D and business teams to lead projects with responsibility to apply the science and technology of abrasive processing of materials for new product and process development.

    ROLE SUMMARY

    • Ensure robust internal simulations of customers’ grinding applications (equipment, tooling, methodology, SOPs, data management, etc.), and facilitate representation of data and results in terms of grinding process phenomena and product failure processes.
    • Lead projects to create and evaluate new process measurement systems and techniques that enhance our capability to quantitatively describe Abrasives processes, designing and analyze related experiments, and work with product and application engineers to deploy such knowledge and tools to support new product launches.
    • Develop and maintain expertise in technologies within the scope of work, along with related research in academia and industry. Write clear, concise technical reports and make oral presentations of studies, results, and recommendations.
    • Assist with the education and training of Abrasives personnel in grinding applications technology.
    • Collaborate with the supervisor and other members of the business unit to propose new applications and other growth opportunities for the Abrasives business.

    COMPETENCIES:

    • Demonstrated technical judgment/accomplishments, project leadership, team collaboration, and oral and written communication skills.

    • Must possess a body of technical work commensurate with their years of experience including but not limited to demonstration of familiarity with statistical tools, data analysis, and drawing conclusions based on a collection of basic data and interpretation

    • Demonstrated good knowledge of HSE

    • Project management skills

    Required Qualifications

    • BS Degree with a minimum of 3+ years’ experience or entry-level MS degree with a thesis in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a closely related discipline

    • Experience with process measurement tools and their use

    • Knowledge and experience with DoE and statistical analysis

    • Knowledge of Excel Macros or Python or any other coding software

    • Previous experience focused on the science and application of machining and/or grinding theory preferred

    • Previous experience in an industrial development or manufacturing environment preferred
