    Position Description

    Job Summary

    The Senior Research Engineer is expected to be an expert in the fields of binders and additives for insulation as well as insulation products structure or performance. He/she will use fundamental scientific and engineering knowledge to lead projects for plant support, product improvement and new products development.

    MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Technical expertise on binders /additives for insulation products

    Develop fundamental and practical expertise of binders and additives for insulation products. This includes:

      • Binder/additives chemistry and raw materials,
      • Binder curing process,
      • Interaction of binders/additives with glass fibers
    • Use the knowledge on binders to develop our understanding of the relation between insulation product structure and product performance
    • When needed, develop and implement new lab methods
    • Collaborate with other Saint Gobain research centers to share and improve Saint Gobain global expertise on binders, additives and insulation products.
    • Innovate / file new declarations of inventions
    • Update internal raw material and products specifications

    Plant support : Provide expertise around binders to support plants on any issue related to insulation products, binders or additives. Use data science tools and methods to analyze plant process and use those results to give recommendations to plants teams to improve product quality or process efficiency

    Product development

    • Collaborate with product management team to develop new products book of specifications
    • Organize trials for new products development: define trial objectives, organize trial, collect and analyze data, summarize results in a report …
    • Organize and follow measurements for products qualification with 3rd party labs
    • Follow and ensure product compliance with US and international standards
    • Support to purchasing and IP

    Sustainability and CO2 reduction

    • Include CO2/sustainability objectives in all projects
    • Work in collaboration with other teams to help Saint Gobain to reach its CO2/sustainability objectives

    Leadership and Project Management

    • Be a top project leader:

      • Give clear objectives and directions to reach the objective
      • Track and ensure project execution
      • Propose solutions to any difficulty
      • Frequently communicate with internal customers, particularly to share project status before they ask for an update

    • Demonstrate strong technical report writing ability, publications, and IP disclosures

    • Display excellent communication skills (written and oral), reducing complex concepts into a presentations or reports that can be explained clearly.

    • Strong attention to details and can work independently or as part of a team.

    Required Qualifications

    REQUIREMENTS:

    • BS Degree with a minimum of 12+ years experience, or MS with 7+ years of experience, or PhD with 3+ years of relevant experience in Material Science or Organic/Inorganic Chemical Engineering.

    • Experience in data analytics / big data science is a plus.
