    Position Description

    Job Summary

    The Senior Research Technician safely performs moderately complex activities and/or product development activities with minimal supervision. He/she works with engineers and customers in solving related problems.   In addition, this position may also perform advanced specialized technical functions involving testing, analyzing, improving, installing, operating, and/or solving problems concerning complex processes, equipment, and products for assigned areas.

    Responsibilities:

    • Conduct experiments in the areas of finishing, grinding, machining, tribology, and metrology on a variety of machines and a variety of materials including metals, polymers, and ceramics.

    • Work with project leaders to develop new test methods, improve existing techniques, and update and create SOPs. 

    • Work with engineers and internal customers to collaborate on the design of special fixtures & tooling.

    • Use electronic data acquisition and metrology tools, such as micrometers and surface profilometers, to collect process information. 

    • Record test and measurement data.   

    • Perform preliminary statistical data analysis and present results.  

    • Maintain laboratory equipment including set-up, operation, and troubleshooting of experimental equipment or instruments.   Lead troubleshooting initiatives and machine repair efforts.

    • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment

    Required Qualifications

    • Associate degree in an engineering, technical, or science-related field or in lieu of degree demonstrated equivalent knowledge with 4-7 years of experience.

    • Work experience with various equipment such as complex assembly and processing or test equipment with CN/CNC & PLC controls, and/or lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other finishing machines.

    • Ability to read blueprints. 

    • Experience in Microsoft products including Excel

    • Knowledge of AutoCAD, SOLID Works, and other CAD/CAM systems is desired.
