Position Description

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Operations Supervisor, the Shift Lead I works with and directs production employees in order to accomplish assigned responsibilities for the shift including EHS requirements, quality requirements, production requirements, training, and professional development. This will be achieved through planning, coaching and delegation throughout the shift.

10% EHS and 5S

  • Ensure safe work environment in plant
  • Be LOTO authorized.
  • Demonstrate active preventive engagement in EHS through performing STOP Observations and safety/environmental reporting, and follow-up that all direct reports participate too.
  • Complete assigned daily 5s walk throughs
  • Identify, eliminate, and / or communicate any unsafe conditions
  • Ensure work stations are setup ergonomically and complete pack station audits.
  • Adhere and oversee compliance with all PPE requirements
  • Adhere and oversee compliance with all CertainTeed Siding and EHS Policies
  • Maintain and improve cleanliness of the facility

10% Quality

  • Be able to understand and communicate what a good quality part is
  • Participate in root cause analysis for quality issues
  • Perform color checks
  • Abide by all ISO 9001 and 14001 procedures and ensures shift is also in compliance
  • Ensure that product packaging specification are followed
  • Perform basic visual quality checks
  • Participate in completing CARs and PARs, and root cause analyses on quality rejections.

30% Coaching and Supervising

  • Ensure positive and open culture on the shift
  • Participate in coaching sessions with shift employees and Operations Supervisor
  • Demonstrate ability to resolve low level conflict within shift
  • Organize shift employees to ensure safety, quality and production goals are met. Includes job assignment, break coverage and training
  • Ensures accurate reporting of safety, quality and production data/results daily
  • Maintains and enforces company policies and procedures during shift operation
  • Provide feedback to Operations Supervisor for review process and promotions
  • Be able to correctly enter production and quality related data in the appropriate systems and performs a reconciliation as needed
  • Conduct discipline as appropriate and with approval

30% Production

  • Responsible for aspects of production including:
    • Maintains and improves safety and cleanliness of plant during shift
    • Demonstrate intermediate troubleshooting skills for processes, mold, machine and material issues
    • Reduction of regrind generation and increased reuse of regrind
    • Reduction of Scrap
    • Read work orders and production schedules to determine specifications, such as materials to be used
    • Set up, trouble shoot, and repair packing stations and printers as needed
    • Support CertainTeed Molded Product’s goals and plans
    • Maintain and improve visual factory
    • Start and stop machines, monitor their operations, and make certain that operational data and process changes are documented
    • Perform intermediate process troubleshooting on injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment, and material loading systems
    • Perform intermediate troubleshooting of Injection molding machines, auxiliary equipment and molds
    • Conduct technical training as required

20% Teamwork

  • Be an active team member of 2 chartered teams or leader/subleader for one team

  • Lead / co-lead WCM teams

Required Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED), Associates Degree preferred

  • 1 leadership training certifications

  • 5 + years Injection Molding experience and/or prior Leadership Experience
