The CRM Database Sustaining Engineering Team deploys and manages some of the largest and most trusted databases in the world. Our customers rely on us to keep their data safe and highly available. We are looking for a Senior Manager/Director to help take it to the next level of innovation to keep up with the fast paced demands of scaling and operating our database services in Salesforce in Public Cloud. You'll collaborate with product owners, lead top-notch software engineers and world-class database engineers to design and implement our next generation database infrastructure.

About the Position:

The Database sustaining engineering team is a global team primarily based in the United states , APAC (Singapore / India) and Ireland (EMEA). The team has the DNA of providing the production support and sustaining engineering for highly scalable, mission critical enterprise database products. We are also looking for further expanding team in ireland and build a 24*7 support within ireland for building capability for Europe zone support. As part of building our team in Ireland, we are looking for engineers and leaders who are passionate about working on the RDBMS technology of massive scale and one that thrives with continuous innovation.

We are looking for an experienced manager to lead the database sustaining engineering team at Salesforce.

We are looking for a Senior Manager / Director of Engineering who must have a strong database background and public cloud background to work with a team that is responsible for architecting, developing and testing the next generation of RDBMS. You will lead and grow a team of world class, highly motivated software engineers and database experts. Your team will need to deliver a highly complex support model with the scalability and performance needed to match the staggering growth of our service.

You will need familiarity with database internals, distributed systems, high availability, replication, scalability and performance. You must have exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and have a track record of hiring top performers and building a highly collaborative team to deliver successful enterprise products.

As a senior technical leader of the engineering team, you will be responsible of:
 

• Build the database sustaining engineering team by attracting and retaining top talent.

• Help with planning, define milestones and lead team to execute on the plan.

• Lead a team of high-caliber engineers in their career growth, and foster a culture of innovation and risk-taking.

• Establish mature production database support team at scale. Process / Tool innovations / Automations, Software development & quality assurance, Process / Tool innovations / Automations, release, and deployment process. Apply industry-standard engineering and security practices to make the platform secure and resilient.

• Interacting with broader organizations at Salesforce to scale the database platform.

You will drive this by :

• Working with product, architects, and engineering managers to execute on the strategy for your product areas, help plan the roadmap, and enable your team to execute that roadmap flawlessly.

• Building the team’s capability to adapt new technology and become SMEs through Recruiting top talents; Develop and grow talent in the team and Through Extensive learning enablements.

• Build 24*7 Support Model within EMEA timezone & participate in global support function through open collaborations across the all geo.

• Drive cross team collaborative work environment with other engineering managers that fosters autonomy, inclusivity, innovation, learning, respect and transparency while holding a high bar for delivery

• Owning and resolving Customer issues with utmost urgency and adhering to customer trust

• Mentoring and coaching a team of software engineers with a range of levels of industry experience

• Motivate and align team members with business and project goals.

• Be the scrum master and project manager, and help the team organize and prioritize.

• Work with Product Owners to define deliverables, priorities and staffing needs.

• Develop a roadmap and milestones and help the team execute to plan.

• Constantly improving culture, communications, and processes.

• Take initiative to challenge and improve the status quo.

• Demonstrate problem-solving and technical innovation through "rolling-up sleeves" and "getting hands dirty".

• Uphold the Agile Principles while leading the team to deliver the products.

• Strong Production Incident management Exposure in large enterprises setup.

Qualifications & Requirements:

• BE/BTech/BS in computer science, or a related field. Business Management Degree in information system would be a plus.

• 8-10 years hands on individual contributor in system or database engineering or Software engineering.

• 6 -10+ years management experience of at least 10 engineers working on a customer facing enterprise product, including demonstrable experience hiring and expanding high performing engineering teams.

• Experience in directly managing software engineers across varying aspects of development including architectural work, coding, testing and performance characterization, with 2+ years of Director level experience is a plus.

• Technical expertise with distributed systems, database replication, transaction management, high availability, highly concurrent and scalable enterprise products. Deep understand with cloud technologies would be a key advantage.

• Proven track record of delivering and supporting large scale enterprise products and services.

• Experience in leading teams that are responsible for production engineering in public cloud world, Software development and Support.

• Innovator with good ideas, strong problem solving, communication skills and a results oriented attitude.

• Excellent communication skills and problem-solving skills

• Experience with highly-scalable and highly-available systems.

• Experience in Agile development

• Ability to oversee multiple complex project deliveries in parallel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience leading team that are responsible for SQL and/or NoSQL datastores e.g., Postgresql, MySQL and etc in production environment at internet scale

• Experience leading teams that deal with Public cloud engineering on GCP, AWS, Alibaba and/or Azure platforms

• Experience with Agile software development methodologies and short release cycles

• Experience owning and operating multiple instances of mission-critical infrastructure services including, monitoring, alerting, logging, and reporting applications
