    NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

    If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

    If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

    What Your Job Will Be Like:

    Do you want to join an outstanding team that is involved in the production and maintenance of weapon systems while working through significant issues with high impact to our nation's security? Then join our dynamic design engineering team as a Designer for the Advanced and Exploratory Projects!

    On any given day, you may be called on to:

    • Be responsible for the creation and configuration management of mechanical designs through 3D models, detailed drawings, layouts and illustrations.
    • Partner with engineers to discuss and interpret design concepts and determine requirements of detailed working drawings.
    • Apply engineering principles of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance and interference analysis, and design optimization.
    • Conceptualize, plan, define and revise parts, assemblies and system level engineering drawings.
    • Recognize alternative design possibilities and be able to recommend the best design choice.
    • Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material and planning groups to ensure design for manufacturability, availability of materials and contractual specifications.

    Due to the nature of work, the successful candidate must be able to work onsite.

    Qualifications We Require:

    • High school diploma plus three or more years of directly related experience
    • Experience using CAD software for 3D solid modeling and mechanical drawing generation
    • Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q-level security clearance

    Qualifications We Desire:

    • Experience and certification using PTC-Creo software for mechanical engineering and design
    • Active DOE Q-level security clearance or equivalent
    • Ability to take initiative
    • Knowledge of relevant Sandia National Laboratories’ procedures, standards and guides
    • Knowledge of and ability to apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T)
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
    • Understanding of manufacturing methods for mechanical hardware
    • GD&T certification such as ASME GDTP technologist level
    • Understanding of configuration management

    About Our Team:

    Sandia's “Design Engineering Group” consists of multiple mechanical design departments that provide design engineering services using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as PTC Creo and other 3D modeling tools. We partner with engineering teams across the lab to produce innovative design solutions based on high quality CAD models and drawings. We ensure fit, form, and function using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), while ensuring manufacturability and maintainability of designs. We determine the physical characteristics of the product including geometric form, interface features, manufacturing specifications, processes, and assembly instructions. We communicate design options and recommended approaches to product development teams, stakeholders, and manufacturing partners. We apply technical judgment based upon engineering principles in the design and development of innovate products in support of our Nation’s security programs.     Department 2952 provides Mechanical Computer Aided Design (MCAD) engineering and design services to support NW. Specifically, we specialize in the creation, management, and release of CAD definition to support product realization teams and product definition requirements. We deliver high-quality 3D solid models, drawings, and apply tolerance analysis, design for manufacturability and inspection, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) expertise to satisfy design and engineering intent. We configuration manage our definition using PDM tools and processes.

    Security Clearance:
