What Your Job Will Be Like:

The Component, Science, Engineering, and Production department, org 7577, is seeking a highly motivated Cyber Information Assurance Specialist to join our supportive and highly collaborative team responsible for providing cyber assurance services to Sandia’s Component, Science, Engineering, and Production center (7500). The successful candidate is a self-starter who will help implement policies and best practices for cyber security, operational technology security, and networks. This position is customer focused and requires troubleshooting and problem solving related to security for highly specialized equipment. The successful candidate will partner with customers and team members to understand mission need and schedule to develop and implement solutions that ensure secure delivery of the Center’s mission.

This position will also require working with other security and IT professionals across the laboratories to assess and determine how best to configure complex and integrated information systems to conform to NIST and CNSS requirements. In addition, the successful candidate will participate in projects to implement new requirements and process improvements. On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Develop, administer, and document the security of distributed computing systems, including operating systems, shared components, and networks.
  • Ensures that all software, hardware, and firmware changes are recorded per established configuration management procedures.
  • Ensures that systems are operated, maintained, and disposed of in accordance with applicable governing policies and procedures.
  • Implements vendor-supplied authentication, auditing, and other security-relevant features.
  • Conducts periodic reviews and audits to ensure compliance with established government information assurance security policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates and communicates with business area managers and professional staff on system security compliance and information assurance technical assistance.
  • Creates system security plans and authorization agreements that meet certification and accreditation requirements.
  • Assists in briefing authorized individuals before they are granted access to classified information systems.
  • Reports all security incidents to specified authorities; investigates, documents, and reports incidents; and provides protective and corrective measures in response to such incidents.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work on-site for at least 20% of their work week.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in Cyber Security, Management Information Systems, Information Assurance, Computer Science, or other relevant field or combination of education and experience that are demonstrably equivalent to perform the duties of the job.
  • Experience researching, evaluating, and applying IT and/or cyber security requirements, directives, guidance, and policies to IT systems.
  • Active DOE L clearance with the ability to obtain and retain a DOE Q clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master’s degree in Cyber Security, Management Information Systems, Information Assurance, Computer Science, or other equivalent field.
  • Certifications in cyber security (https://e.g., CISSP, Security+, GICSP, etc.).
  • Experience with cyber security, information assurance, information security, or operational technology.
  • Experience achieving authorization to operate (ATO) for computer systems.
  • Experience working with cyber security programs at Sandia or in the Federal government.
  • Previous experience as a Cyber Security Representative (CSR) at Sandia.
  • Experience with security governance and compliance.
  • Familiarity with Sandia’s security policies and security plans.
  • Experience with system administration or network administration.
  • DOE Q Clearance

About Our Team:

The Component, Science, Engineering, and Production (CSEP) Department (org. 7577) provides cyber technology products and services to customers throughout Sandia’s Component, Science, Engineering, and Production center (org. 7500). The mission centric work performed by the department is highly varied, challenging, interesting, and often visible to upper management. Department 7577's embedded, cyber security team has deep knowledge and experience with manufacturing products, processes, and people, and we partner extensively with colleagues across Sandia’s CIO organization (IT and Cyber). The department also provides Oracle manufacturing operational support and expertise; computer science support and small application development; reporting, visualization, and analytics; and production test system support (PST) to the center.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) L security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another https://U.S. government agency (https://e.g., DOD).
