Intern - Access Delay & Structural Assessment - R&D Undergraduate Year-Round

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a Year Round - R&D Undergraduate Intern to join our dynamic team!

On any given day, you may be called on to:

• Research current state of the art in access delay, physical security, materials science, and explosives engineering utilizing scientific literature
• Assist staff members with data/note taking during testing
• Supporting solid modeling and engineering conceptual designs
• Support staff members in the lab with assembling test hardware, collecting data and documenting results from various test activities.
• Support 3D printing of protype parts using various printers

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

Qualifications We Require:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

• Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
• Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
• Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
• U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire:

• Prior experience using solid modeling software such as SolidWorks and CREO to produce solid models and manufacturing drawings
• Experience using 3D printers, prototyping and assembling hardware
• Experience using structural modeling and simulation software
• Hobbies/interest related to automotive repair, mechanical designs, welding/fabrication, and mechanical testing
• GPA greater than 3.5
• Prior experience with the design of physical barriers for safety and/or security against:
• Ballistics
• Explosive events
• Mechanical and Thermal attack tools

The Access Delay and Structural Assessment Department at Sandia National Laboratories serves the nation by designing, analyzing, testing, and assessing physical security delay barrier systems to protect critical assets and attractive targets from theft and sabotage. The department is currently working with various elements within the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Department of Energy (DOE) to ensure the protection of high value assets at domestic and international facilities. The team is comprised of experienced staff, technologists, and engineering interns. Security Clearance:
