    Position summary

    What Your Job Will Be Like:

    This position is for a Facilities Operations Architect Intern who will assist with designing, or overseeing design, of sustainable architectural building systems, addressing accessibility issues, and overseeing systems that ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.

    On any given day, you may be called on to help the Operations Architect with:

    • Developing and providing technical system requirements for both design and operation of architectural systems.
    • Following code and contractual requirements; and incorporating performance-based design and customer requirements.
    • Providing computerized modeling of systems, analyzing data, and ensuring reliability through obsolescence- and reliability-centered planning.
    • Researching and testing new and innovative techniques and equipment to save energy and reduce costs in utility and building architectural systems.
    • Assessing capabilities and condition of existing building envelope, equipment, systems, and site infrastructure and making recommendations for improvements
    • Performing systems analyses of buildings' interior and exterior systems and subsystems, and creating campus and building standards.
    • Preparing design specifications, materials, color, equipment, estimated costs, and construction time data.
    • Planning layout of projects and integrating architectural elements into a unified design.
    • Responding to daily requests for support from customers and maintenance.
    • Updating and creating standards and specifications.

    Posting Duration:

    NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

    If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

    If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

    Qualifications We Require:

    You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

    • Earned bachelor's degree
    • Currently attending and enrolled full time in a related accredited graduate program
    • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
    • Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
    • U.S. citizenship

    Qualifications We Desire:

    • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Architecture or related field. Experience working in an architecture related field.
    • A strong desire to learn and the ability to work independently or with teams.
    • CADD/BIM experience.
    • Ability to understand and interpret mechanical, electrical, and plumbing documents, blueprints, drawings, and schematics.
    • Experience working in a team environment.
    • Working knowledge and understanding in Facilities engineering, design and construction, and industry standards/ practices.
    • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple high rigor tasks in a high-pressure environment.
    • Ability to develop and nurture internal customer relationships.
    • Ability to plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion.
    • Knowledge of maintenance management software systems.

    Security Clearance:
