    Position summary

    Posting Duration:

    NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

    If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

    If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

    Salary Range:

    $118,500 - $201,400

    *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

    What Your Job Will Be Like:

    Sandia National Laboratories is seeking to hire a Manager, Environmental Management to join our team!

    In this role, you will oversee and manage a mix of diverse technical and non-technical members of the Workforce (MOW) within the Environmental Management program area (Center 4736 -Waste Management/Pollution Prevention).

    This position has broad as well as in-depth knowledge of the following highly technical Environmental program areas which includes: hazardous, radiological and mixed waste management, environmental monitoring and control, air quality, Ecology, environmental planning, chemical management, pollution prevention and sustainability. You will understand the technical and political implications of regulations and determine the best approach for compliance given the variety of technical risks and operational considerations.

    On any given day, you may be called on to:

    • Define organizational lines of authority and responsibility.
    • Ensure sufficient budget, staffing and resources are available to support operations.
    • Establish organizational performance goals and objectives.
    • Coordinate employee recruitment, selection, training, performance assessment, work assignments, salary, and recognition and disciplinary actions.
    • Ensure that clear, obtainable achievements are established for the waste/material operations contractor.
    • Ensure site compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental laws and requirements.
    • Ensure training is provided for staff and contractors to ensure the safe and effective implementation of requirements.
    • Maintain a robust self-assessment and performance assurance program.
    • Take an active role in the acceptance, planning, review, approval, authorization, monitoring, and control of Department operations.
    • Approve Department procedures and other technical work documents.

    Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 100% of the time.

    Qualifications We Require:

    • Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline such as Physical Science or Engineering, etc, plus eight (8) or more years of directly relevant experience; or a Master's degree in a previously mentioned relevant discipline plus four (4) years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
    • Experience with one or more of the following:
    • Managing radioactive and/or hazardous waste.
    • Working in a highly regulated environment.
    • Working with internal and external customers and state and Federal regulators.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q-level security clearance.

    Qualifications We Desire:

    • Master's degree in physical science or engineering.
    • Two or more years of demonstrated leadership experience.
    • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement.
    • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Experience with SNL's classified and accountable nuclear material management processes.
    • Experience working in a high rigor/formality environment.
    • Previous experience as either a manager or project leader.

    About Our Team:

    The Waste Management and Pollution Prevention Department develops, maintains, and supports the implementation of the corporate waste management and pollution prevention program. We provide guidance and assistance in waste reduction and diversion, collection, storage, treatment, packaging, shipping, disposal, policy communication, and training. Our team has three main facilities located in Technical Areas 2 and 3. The facilities are staffed with both NTESS personnel and through two multi-disciplinary performance-based contracts consisting of over 40 on-site contract support staff. The activities of the Department are highly regulated as activities may involve hazardous waste, radioactive waste, classified information and items, and accountable nuclear materials. Our objective is to reduce the legacy inventories of waste and materials while supporting the ongoing waste management needs of the Laboratories.

    Security Clearance:
