    Position summary

    Posting Duration:

    NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

    If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

    If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

    Salary Range:

    $99,700 - $196,100 *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate¿s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

    What Your Job Will Be Like:

    We are seeking a dedicated R&D S&E, Computer Engineering to provide technical leadership for projects relating to remote sensing and satellite systems. We need an experienced digital electrical designer specifically with embedded hardware experience in extreme environments.

    The successful applicant will have experience with digital designs for embedded applications, and in particular: Focal Plane Array (FPA) integration, Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) system design and HDL (VHDL or Verilog) experience; high-speed network and interface electronics; and high-speed analog to digital interfaces.

    On any given day, you may be called on to:

    • Work with multi-disciplinary teams for the research, design, fabrication, integration, test, and deployment of electrical components, subsystems, and assemblies
    • Work with diverse teams to understand, simulate, and test electrical components and systems exposed to the challenging radiation environments present in space
    • Collaborate on teams to research and design components, subassemblies, and systems that are resilient to extreme environments, especially space

    Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.

    Qualifications We Require:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or relevant STEM degree, plus five (5) or more years of directly related experience
    • Experience in electronic system design skills to include PCB design, electrical troubleshooting, and/or FPGA/HDL design and simulation
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance

    Qualifications We Desire:

    • Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in the above state fields
    • Expertise with FPA integration and testing
    • Expertise with Verilog or VHDL and FPGA system design and integration
    • Excellent written and verbal communication, project coordination, and social skills
    • Proven ability to be self-motivated and work independently as well as in a multi-disciplinary team environment, building consensus and resolving issues
    • Experience in the design, development, test, and implementation of electrical systems, especially high-speed digital electronics
    • Knowledge of the effects of extreme environments (e.g. radiation, thermal extremes, shock, and vibration) on electrical systems
    • Proficiency with space radiation effects in digital electronics (e.g. single event effects)
    • Familiarity with satellite programs and processes
    • Experience as a technical design lead on multi-disciplinary projects.
    • Strong organization and planning skills and ability tackle more than one assignment at a time.
    • Desire to learn new skills as required and develop expertise in areas that may be unfamiliar
    • Active Q and TS/SCI clearances
    • Willingness to travel up to 10%

    Security Clearance:
