    Position summary

    Posting Duration:

    NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

    If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

    If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

    Salary Range:

    $113,500 - $223,500

    *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

    We are seeking Cybersecurity Researchers to join our team!

    Are you passionate about research toward keeping systems safe and thwarting cyber intrusions? If so, you will want to apply for this opportunity to join Sandia's unique multidisciplinary team committed to solving the information security challenges facing our nation.

    As a researcher in Sandia's Information Security Sciences group, you will engage in understanding the threats to host, mobile, and cloud platforms; and you will contribute technical ideas and implementation - keeping our nation safe from cyber attacks through innovative research and development.

    To support Sandia's national security missions, our cybersecurity researchers engage in a variety of research areas including:

    • Cloud computing
    • Reverse Engineering
    • Network operation, information protection, and resiliency
    • Differential Privacy
    • Authentication and authorization
    • Cryptography
    • Threat intelligence
    • Real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded systems, including Internet of Things (IoT)
    • Virtualization (system and network)
    • Mobile devices and smart technologies
    • Industrial control systems and SCADA systems
    • Research-based experimental design and analysis
    • Risk analysis and metrics
    • Programmatic development across national security partners and government agencies

    Applicants on this requisition may be interviewed by multiple organizations at Sandia National Laboratories.

    The selected applicant can be a virtual worker located in any U.S. State or District of Columbia. Regular or periodic travel to your assigned work location (Livermore, California) will be required.

    Qualifications We Require:

    • Master’s degree in a relevant subject area, plus 2 years’ relevant experience or equivalent experience in lieu of degrees must be engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
    • Expertise in at least one of the following: Low level Windows and/or Linux internals, Windows and/or Linux binary reverse engineering, Virtual Machine Introspection, Cloud platform development and management (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), mobile handset and infrastructure internals and protocols
    • Ability to travel to Livermore, California (about 10%)
    • Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q and SCI clearances

    Qualifications We Desire:

    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Demonstrated proficiency in low-level programming (C/C++, Assembly)
    • Relevant technical certifications (e.g., Azure Security Engineer, AWS Certified Solutions Architect)
    • Expert knowledge of Computer Science algorithms and data structures and their time and space complexities
    • Expert understanding of Operating System fundamentals (memory, process, and thread management)
    • Understanding of network OSI model and common protocols
    • Proficiency in multiple programming languages (C/C++, Java, Python, Go)
    • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies
    • Demonstrated leadership in R&D projects
    • Research experience in applying one or more of the following analysis techniques: symbolic execution, virtual machine introspection,
    • Active Q and SCI clearances

    Security Clearance:

    Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.
