    Posting Duration:

    Salary Range:

    $204,800 - $348,100

    *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

    We are seeking an outstanding leader as the next Director for the Proliferation Assessments Center. The Center Director is responsible for the Proliferation Assessments (PA) Program (part of the National Security Programs portfolio). PA, in collaboration with our strategic partners, provides scientific and engineering expertise to anticipate, understand, and proactively address existential threats to our nation. The organization’s highly talented workforce encompasses a strong understanding of weapons of mass destruction (nuclear weapons in particular) and deep connections with the Intelligence and Defense communities, as well as the scientific community. PA is part of the Threat Intelligence Community, along with the Information Operations Center and the Applied Information Sciences Center. The Center is also one of Sandia’s five Cyber Centers. The Center consists of three subprograms/groups. The Threat Assessment Group is primarily focused on understanding existential threats to the United States and works closely and collaboratively with Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore National Labs, as well as the Department of Energy, and the Intelligence Community to produce both deep technical assessments as well as practical intelligence for policy makers. The Tailored Operational Support Group focuses on innovative sensing systems and technical assessments of the resulting data. The Applied Strategic Technologies Group develops specialized solutions to unique problems of strategic importance to the nation. The Center partners strongly across the Laboratory and the nation to tap into expertise and capabilities, while providing critical threat information to the rest of the Laboratory and the National Security community.

    On any given day, you may be called on to:

    • Define an inspiring vision that is deeply connected to our national-security mission
    • Provide thought leadership and be the interface for Sandia customers and sponsors, including very high-level decision and policy makers
    • Partner closely with your peers within the Division, as part of the core Division executive leadership team Build trust with sponsors and partners
    • Foster a collaborative, teaming environment to tackle the nation’s toughest challenges
    • Develop and implement the Center’s strategic plan in alignment with national needs, Division objectives, and Sandia’s strategic goals
    • Make game changing decisions
    • Serve as a connection between disparate programs and capabilities
    • Steward and advance the Center’s capabilities (as embodied in the organization’s staff, facilities, and tools) in support of that plan
    • Develop partnerships across Sandia and with external organizations including other national laboratories (e.g., Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore National Labs) and industry
    • Lead, mentor and develop your leadership team and your broader workforce, with an emphasis on building a diverse and inclusive team as well an impactful capability.
    • Assure safe and secure activities and program execution (Center-level indirect and program budgets, staffing, and deliverables) and address performance and execution gaps

    Qualifications We Require:

    • Master's degree or above in a relevant STEM field, with at least 10 years of relevant experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Experience with the intelligence community and intelligence-related programs
    • 8 or more years of managerial experience, including leading and directing managers and complex organizations
    • Experience and/or education in at least two of the following areas: intelligence assessments, hardware/software system development, nuclear weapons and technologies
    • Proven ability to develop a culture of inclusion and take an active leadership role in modeling and growing values in diversity, equality, and inclusion
    • Holds an active DOE Q level security clearance or has held one within the past 2 years, and the ability to obtain and maintain an SCI clearance (which may require a polygraph test)

    Qualifications We Desire:

    • Active SCI clearance
    • Successful track record managing and leading programs involving classified information
    • History of successful external program development, communications, and leadership
    • Experience working with or advising decision makers and policy leaders
    • Experience and/or education that supports advanced science/technology research and development
    • PhD in a relevant STEM field
    • Integrative problem solver with proven ability to tackle complex, multidimensional problems with due consideration for business and strategic consequences
    • Proven ability to create and maintain a safe, secure, and effective environment for all work activities and employees
    • Proven ability to work closely with peers to create globally optimal and comprehensive solutions

    About Our Team:

    Center 5900 has about 200 individuals with a wide range of educational and experiential backgrounds. We have personnel at our New Mexico, Minnesota, and California sites as well as telecommuters and remote workers across the country. There are currently three senior managers and four senior scientists as well as an integrated business team. Each of the senior managers is responsible for a sub program and for capabilities that support the Threat Intelligence Community, the Lab, and the National Security Complex. The Director is also a key member of the Division Executive Leadership Team.

    Security Clearance:
