    NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

    If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

    If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

    Salary Range:

    $101,400 - $201,400 *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate¿s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

    The selected candidate will work on Radio Frequency (RF) projects in RF design and testing, antenna design and testing, and electromagnetic (EM) analysis. Projects will also include designing systems and components for High Power Microwave (HPM) applications as well as evaluating the effectiveness of HPM sources and vulnerabilities of systems to an HPM attack.

    On any given day, one may be called upon to:

    • Design RF systems, subsystems, and components
    • Design and implement various RF experiments, from UHF through W-band
    • Design and test microwave antennas
    • Conduct electromagnetic analysis
    • Design HPM weapon systems and components
    • Implement HPM vulnerability testing
    • Analyze test data and communicate results (oral presentations and written reports) to customers
    • Shape the future through the introduction of new concepts and the applications of advanced technologies
    • Write project proposals
    • Collaborate with customers and provide timely delivery on commitments

    Due to the nature of the work the candidate must be able to work onsite. Travel to sponsor sites, field testing, training, and conference attendance is required for this position. Candidates applying on this requisition may be interviewed and/or hired into one of these departments: 05497, Directed Energy Missions, or 05499, Directed Energy Assessments.

    Qualifications We Require:

    • Bachelor's and Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a relevant STEM field, plus 1 year experience
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which may require a polygraph test

    Qualifications We Desire:

    • Experience in antenna design, RF diagnostics and instrumentation, EM testing, and data analysis in the RF and microwave frequency range (100 MHz through 100 GHz)
    • Experience with analog and digital circuit design for controls
    • Experience with the following software tools: electromagnetic codes (HFSS, CST, Maxwell, FEKO, etc.), circuit codes (PSpice, Xyce, AST, etc.), MATLAB, Python or Mathematica, LabVIEW, SolidWorks, and MS Office products
    • Experience measuring shielding effectiveness
    • Experience with electronic warfare to include attacks on hardware or software (cyber)
    • A self-starter able to adapt to fast-paced, DoD customer-focused operations, with an emphasis on meeting deliverables
    • FPGA programming experience
    • Knowledge of current innovative directed energy systems or technology
    • Experience collaborating with DoE or DoD organizations
    • Team building and program management skills
    • Strong documentation skills (for assistance in record keeping, documentation, ES&H compliance, and product transition to industry)
    • A PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a relevant STEM degree, with a concentration in Applied Electromagnetics
    • An active DOE Q-level security clearance and an active SCI-level Clearance; or other equivalent active security clearance such as DOD Top Secret and SCI-level Clearance

    Security Clearance:
