    Position summary

    Posting Duration:

    NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

    If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

    If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

    Salary Range:

    $88,600 - $172,300

    *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

    What Your Job Will Be Like:

    We are seeking a Cybersecurity professional with software engineering experience to join our multidisciplinary team in developing solutions to critical national security challenges.

    Sandia’s Space Mission Engineering Program Office (SMEPO) strives to enhance and protect the nation’s space enterprise. As the trusted resource to our government partners, we seek out the toughest challenges and respond with creativity, determination, and skill. We innovate across the spectrum of space infrastructure; from flight payloads to ground stations, from new materials to advanced algorithms to develop creative solutions to unique national security challenges!

    On any given day, you may be called on to:

    • Work collaboratively with architects, developers, technical engineering leads, customers, and end users to collect requirements, design solutions, and deliver software applications
    • Engage with diverse computer science specialists in areas such as data fusion, signal and image processing, analytics, cloud computing, machine learning, modeling and simulation, service-oriented architectures, data management and visualization
    • Write, test, and debug C++, Python, and Java applications
    • Use modern software development tools like cloud computing and containerization
    • Develop and employ machine learning techniques
    • Work in Windows and Linux environments
    • Serve as a technical interface for customers and internal management
    • Find opportunities to drive innovative solutions and create the future of space-based systems

    Due to the nature of the work, you must be able to work full-time onsite in either Albuquerque, NM or Colorado Springs. CO.

    Qualifications We Require:

    • Bachelor’s degree and/or advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in cyber security, computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or other relevant STEM field
    • Experience with cybersecurity tools, capabilities, and practices
    • Experience in Python or Java
    • Ability to obtain and maintain DoE Q and SCI clearances

    Qualifications We Desire:

    • C++ Experience
    • Design, testing, and delivery of software products
    • Engineering software tools, such as MATLAB
    • Using and writing applications for Linux
    • Remote sensing, space, satellites, or satellite ground stations
    • Testing and debugging software systems
    • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills to work in a team setting for a common purpose
    • Interest in contributing to multidisciplinary technical teams at the system level
    • Active DOE Q or SCI clearance or equivalent

    Security Clearance:

    Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance and SCI access, both of which require US citizenship. SCI access may also require a polygraph examination. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain these levels of access may be impacted.
