    Position summary

    Posting Duration:

    NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

    If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

    If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

    Salary Range:

    $88,600 - $172,300

    *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

    The Trusted & Secure Systems department (05327) is seeking a motivated and innovative embedded engineer to join our team working on large scale multi-disciplinary designs targeting command and control, radar, GPS-Denied technologies, navigation, communications, and data processing for scientific and national defense applications. As a successful candidate, you will be responsible for contributing as part of a team to develop complex solutions to challenging national problems. Having a desire to learn and develop your own skills will be crucial and beneficial as you join a fun and motivated team to accomplish missions relevant to Sandia and to our nation.

    You will work alongside world-class authorities and emerging leaders and use your skills in the following areas:

    • Architecting, implementing, and deploying embedded systems
    • Design, development, integrate, and test terrestrial, avionic, and space based HW/SW systems
    • Large scale development of robotic/radar/navigational systems and architectures
    • Algorithm development, real-time implementation, validation, and performance quantification.

    Qualifications We Require:

    • You possess a Masters or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics/Robotics Engineering;
    • OR a bachelor's degree as stated above plus three years of experience in lieu of an advanced degree.
    • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q - level security clearance.

    Qualifications We Desire:

    Ideally, we would like to see your background include significant experience with some of the following (candidates are not expected to have all these desired qualifications):

    • You have an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics/Robotics Engineering;
    • You possess embedded software and/or firmware development skills (C++, Python, VHDL, Verilog, PIC, STM, Xilinx, etc.)
    • Demonstrated capability or interest in understanding mathematical methods for estimation theory, embedded systems, and hardware architectures
    • Experience with system level electrical design
    • Experience with designing, implementing, and integrating multifaceted robotic and embedded systems
    • Proven ability to work with and across multiple engineering disciplines
    • Demonstrated real-time operations with field-test or live demonstrations of complex systems
    • Desire to merge and implement all areas of engineering for program success
    • Experience with Linux or embedded operating systems
    • Experience in low-level device driver development and interfacing with hardware
    • Versed with industry standard software practices such as CI/CD, version control, and linters.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, as well as work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment
    • Strong communication skills. This includes the ability to interact with team members about technical details and present program milestones and deliverables at a higher level
    • Active DOE Q-level clearance.

    Organization 5337, The Trusted & Secure Systems department focuses on the development of secure and aware command, control, and communications functions for terrestrial, airborne, and space based systems that are critical for national security applications. Representative system components include those necessary for protection of high value assets, various point-to-point, static and dynamic C2 architectures, and situational analyses requiring compact operating systems and processing.     Security Clearance:
