What Your Job Will Be Like:

Be part of a high functioning, inter-disciplinary collaborative team that solves complex engineering challenges. You’ll make a difference in national security and contribute to Sandia’s top-priority mission. We are seeking a highly motivated, professional R&D Systems Engineers to join our team to develop, design, implement, and maintain strategies to lead R&D project teams.

On any given day, you may be called upon to:

  • Communicate and team effectively across multiple roles and technology areas, to include staff, team leads, and several levels of management.
  • Engage in projects which span across all phases of the product realization lifecycle from conceptual design and development, through to production, maintenance, and retirement.
  • Collaborate on projects that include both nuclear and non-nuclear components, subsystems, and systems, as well as some capability development.
  • Lead through position of influence rather than authority, integrate people, teams, products, and activities across multiple technologies
  • Model weapon system architectures (Requirements, Behavior, Physical, Interface, Verification, Testing, Processes, etc.)
  • Generate model-based Systems Engineering (MBSE) artifacts (reports, diagrams, tables, analysis dashboards, web interfaces, etc.) to support program deliverables.
  • Apply critical thinking using a diverse set of skills and expertise
  • Partner with multiple organizations and functional areas (Systems, Components, Qualification, Nuclear Safety, Use Control, Quality, JTAs, H&T Gear, Trainers, Requirements, Electrical, Mechanical, Modeling and Simulation and many more)
  • Research and Develop advanced Systems Engineering modeling capabilities to support program needs

Selected applicants will be interviewed by a subcommittee of managers. Subsequently, successful applicants will be provided to managers for placement in positions across Center 2400.

Salary Range:

$88,600 - $172,300

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Systems Engineering or other relevant subject area
  • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-Level security clearance

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master’s degree in STEM field
  • Self-management / self-sufficiency – ability to work on projects with minimal management oversight and the ability to solicit new projects from an existing customer base.
  • Demonstrated ability in applying engineering principles to formulate design concepts and meet product requirements such as form, fit, and function.
  • Demonstrated successful teamwork, excellent communication skills, and consistent demonstration of good behaviors.
  • Consistent record of demonstrating initiative and getting results by taking ownership of assignments.
  • Understanding the nature of system problems and leading teams through resolution activities
  • Authoring qualification plans, requirements maps, test plans, and measurement assurance plans
  • Familiarity with requirements engineering concepts including elicitation, analysis, specification, and management

About Our Team:

The Advanced Systems and Transformation Center (2400) develops safe, secure, trusted, and mission-capable weapon designs and architectures. We partner internally and integrate across the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) to provide thorough, objective information to our nation’s decision makers. We do this through preparing for Programs of Record and Urgent Operational Needs, maintaining a systems and digital engineering capability, and cultivating national and international relationships.
