    NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

    If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

    If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

    Salary Range:

    $101,400 - $201,400

    *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

    What Your Job Will Be Like:

    We are seeking a motivated R&D Electrical Test Engineer to join the Inertial Sensors Department. You will support Sandia’s advanced MEMS sensor technology development in transitioning new environmental sensors from development to production for high consequence national security Testing involves characterizing development activities for MEMS based inertial sensors as well as, implementing production activities for high profile components. This job will also have interface and oversite over lab-based screen testers that are internally developed as a part of our product assembly flow. Initially this role will focus on ownership of these test activities in support of current programs with a vision in mind to support future technologies with applications in Nuclear Deterrence, non-proliferation, Energy, and Homeland Security.

    Our dedicated team has a large mix of work including Research and Development (R&D) design and product engineering with exciting opportunities to support high impact mission programs.

    On any given day, you may be called on to:

    • Direct and run 2-axis rate table test activities for MESA’s inertial sensor development and production activities.
    • Work with lab technologists and MEMS engineers to develop and implement test activities through ensuring testers are operational and appropriately calibrated.
    • Analyze test data and work with MEMS Design, Fabrication, and environmental test teams to communicate results and troubleshoot anomalies.
    • Work closely with MEMS design team to understand product and fine tune yield definitions and performance metrics.
    • Lead qualification activities (measurement assurance plans, production certification documentation, etc.) for production quality rigor associated with the testers.
    • Identify, procure, and commission new fabrication, characterization, and test equipment.
    • Present technical content and results internally within the team as well as, externally to partners, customers, and management.

    You may have an educational background in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science.

    Qualifications We Require:

    • Master’s degree in STEM-related field (Mechanical, Electrical, Material Science, or Systems Engineering) plus one (1) year experience
    • or Bachelor’s degree in relevant field plus five (5) years of directly related experience
    • Experience with test equipment such as rate tables, centrifuge, thermal chamber, or other similar test capabilities
    • Experience with data analysis
    • Demonstrated ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and communicate findings and solutions to external vendors and/or engineers
    • Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE Q clearance

    Qualifications We Desire:

    • Academic or professional experience in inertial sensors and MEMS
    • Ability to conceive and propose ideas for process improvement through troubleshooting to overcome challenges and improve yield.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and eagerness to collaborate in a multi-disciplinary team environment

The team partners closely with Sandia’s Microelectronics Engineering Science Applications (MESA) center with internal facilities and competency in microelectronics design, fabrication, and testing.     Security Clearance:
