    Position summary

    Posting Duration:

    NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

    If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

    If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.

    Salary Range:

    $98,300 - $190,100

    *Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

    What Your Job Will Be Like:

    We are seeking early to mid-career engineers with an electrical engineering background (Job title: R&D S&E Electrical Engineer) to work within the largest nuclear deterrence systems engineering organization at Sandia! The W80-4 Life Extension Program (https://www.energy.gov/sites/prod/files/2019/04/f61/2019-04-16-FACTSHEET-W80-4.pdf) involves significant component and systems level work to ensure enhanced safety and security of our nation's strategic nuclear stockpile. Sandia is the foremost National Laboratory for engineering of non-nuclear components of nuclear weapons.     This is a unique opportunity to work on systems-level hardware test activities within a systems design organization and work closely with component and test teams.

    On any given day you may be called to:

    • Act as the primary point of contact to coordinate efforts with technologists performing tests in the facility
    • Participate in test planning to verify requirements and qualify hardware
    • Coordinate with the systems design team to verify system functionality
    • Responsible for writing test plans and procedures
    • Direct data analysis after test completion
    • Resolve issues found during the testing process
    • Support ongoing system level integration testing activities
    • Prepare for presentations at technical design reviews
    • Represent the systems design team on multi-organizational project teams within Sandia

    Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite up to 100% of the time.

    Qualifications We Require:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline plus 2 years relevant experience, or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience in lieu of degrees must be engineering or scientific
    • Experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development
    • Academic or job experience with electrical testing using oscilloscopes, National Instruments hardware, LabVIEW, or other similar electrical test equipment or software
    • Academic or job experiences in at least one of the following: circuit design or analysis, signal processing, modeling/simulation, or qualification
    • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25%
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance

    Qualifications We Desire:

    • Active DoE Q-level security clearance
    • Experience directing testing efforts
    • Experience designing test concepts
    • Experience writing process documentation
    • Academic or job experience with analog board design
    • Familiarity with engineering tools and languages such as PSpice, Cadence/OrCAD, DxDesigner, MATLAB, Simulink, C/C++ or Python
    • Outstanding verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling
    • Ability to team well with others and listen to different perspectives

    About Our Team:

    The W80-4 System Integration Departments are part of the Sandia/California Weapon Systems Engineering Center. The Weapon Systems Engineering Center is responsible for assuring the safety, reliability and security of U.S. nuclear weapons enabling the defense of our nation through our nuclear strategic deterrent. The W80-4 System Integration Departments are comprised of a group of dedicated and motivated engineers with advanced technical degrees, primarily in mechanical and electrical engineering. A major effort for this organization is the engineering design and development in support of a Life Extension Program for a nuclear warhead (W80-4). The W80-4 warhead will be deployed on the future U.S. Air Force Long Range Standoff (LRSO) cruise missile that will replace the existing Air Launched Cruise Missile (ALCM)/W80 Warhead weapon system in our nation's nuclear deterrent stockpile. This is a long term program that will require close collaboration with many different departments within Sandia as well as with organizations outside of Sandia such as LLNL, NNSA, Production Facilities, and the Department of Defense (DoD).

    Security Clearance:
