W80-4 Telemetry Electrical Lead (Experienced)

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

Salary Range:

$116,600 - $229,500

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking an experienced R&D Electronics Engineer to lead a team of other electrical engineers supporting the design, qualification, and production of the W80-4 JTA Telemetry. The candidate will be responsible for finalizing the design and working with KCNSC to ensure they are ready for production.

On any given day, the Lead Electrical may be called to:

• Direct the efforts of the electrical team to execute objectives
• Engage with JTA systems on a routine basis to discuss TM and JTA design to help resolve any ground test or flight test anomaly
• Represent the Telemetry electrical team to W80-4 systems engineering, LLNL, NNSA, and production agency partners
• Conduct system architecture assessment
• Support System Surety Engineer (SSE) in ensuring product meets requirements through requirements mapping (RQ-R), requirements verification (RQ-V), and qualification plan (PQ)
• Lead development and negotiation of electrical interface requirements
• Coordinate design efforts with the mechanical and firmware teams on the TM PRT
• Contribute to functional testing of individual printed wiring assemblies or completed Telemetry systems
• Oversee production of development hardware
• Work with KCNSC on Product Specifications; assist in Production Tester (PT) development and qualification

Qualifications We Require:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or in a related discipline plus 5 years of related experience or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or in a related discipline plus 1 year related experience or equivalent: engineering or scientific experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills and ability to perform independent research and development
• Demonstrated experience in design and test to include one or more of the following: analog and/or digital circuit design, RF system design, embedded system design, PWAs and PWBs, and electromagnetic radiation (EMR) effects on electronics
• Hands-on experience testing and de-bugging circuitry with tools such as oscilloscopes, logic/network/spectrum analyzers, function/pulse generators, etc.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance
• Ability to travel up to 25%

Qualifications We Desire:

• Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate with internal organizations and external production facilities and suppliers
• Experience working on engineering design, qualification, and production
• Familiarity with Nuclear Weapons Product Realization Lifecycle, 6.X process
• Top-notch verbal and written skills, including the ability to develop and present briefings that are clear and compelling
• Experience working with DOE, NNSA, DOD, other National Labs, and Production facilities
• Currently holding an active security clearance; DOE Q or DOD TS
• Ability to work well in a collaborative team environment

Organization 8434, Telemetry Engineering II - along with sister departments 08432, 08433, 08435 and 08436- has responsibility for the design, development, and qualification of weapon system instrumentation (or telemetry systems) for use in Joint Test Assemblies (JTAs) for the entire US nuclear arsenal. The JTA program is a cornerstone of the Stockpile Evaluation Program and allows critical assessment of the weapon system, DoD platform, and support personnel performance. To fulfill its mission responsibilities, Organization 8434 employs a diverse and talented group of electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and technologists. The Organization collaborates with other NW groups within Sandia and across the Nuclear Weapons Complex, including NNSA, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Los Alamos National Laboratory, the production agencies (National Security Center and Pantex), and the DoD.
