    WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

    The Associate, Compliance Testing role is part of the 2LoD Compliance Testing (“CT”) team for the Santander U.S. Corporate and Investment Banking (“SCIB”) business.  The CT team is responsible for assessing compliance risks and controls implemented by the business and functional areas. The testing will focus on key regulatory requirements, controls and processes related to securities, banking products, futures, exchange traded derivatives and swaps.  The role will also include performing independent testing activities (testing and on-going monitoring) to assess the design and effectiveness of key controls designed to address compliance risk; reporting and escalating control issues and any violations of laws or breaches of policy; and validating adequacy of remediation taken to address reported issues. 

    Responsibilities:

    • Testing SCIB processes around trading, sales, Debt Capital Markets, Equity Capital Markets, research, banking products, derivatives and middle/back office activities of the firm, including:
    • Documenting test scope and objectives associated with the review and the control activities being tested.
    • Preparing test reports that effectively communicate testing processes, observations and results.
    • Reporting CT findings to appropriate stakeholders and defining management actions plans with stakeholders to address findings.
    • Tracking CT findings from discovery to remediation and conducting validation of management actions plans.
    • Contributing to the development, implementation, and execution of the compliance testing, reporting programs and CT Plan.
    • Developing and executing the CT Plan to monitor for compliance with rules, laws, and regulations.
    • Developing CT Monthly Reporting Summaries.
    • Participating in the development and enhancement of the CT Methodologies and Standards for testing, monitoring, and reporting.
    • Developing effective relationships within the CT function and with other stakeholders including business and technology process owners.
    • Building and managing relationships with senior functional management executives, as well as working closely with regional Compliance Testing Heads and Internal Audit.
    • Promoting knowledge sharing and promulgation of best practices across SCIB Compliance and the business.
    • Identifying industry best practices and sharing insight with the CT team on a regular basis.
    • Informing Compliance management of significant compliance matters that require their attention or action.
    • Additional duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    Education:
    Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in Business, Finance or equivalent degree.
    Preferred: Advanced Degree in Law, Business, Finance or equivalent field

    Work Experience:

    At least 5 years of experience conducting testing, managing regulatory exams, auditing, or completing risk assessments within major international investment banks.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Extensive knowledge of compliance-related laws, rules, regulations, and risks.

    • Global compliance and audit-related experience, and strong knowledge of business processes and IT technologies utilized in the financial services industry.

    • Experience in planning, executing, and reporting on compliance testing reviews and regulatory issue validation activities.

    • Knowledge of and experience with auditing principles including test planning, risk assessments, development of risks and controls matrices, processes and controls design assessments, controls operating effectiveness testing, transactional access segregation of duties, transactional testing, surveillance systems, and reporting activities.

    • Understanding of rules, laws, and regulations, and specific regulatory requirements impacting financial services.

    • Awareness of regulatory developments promulgated by federal and state regulators, as well as securities, banking and futures regulators.

    • Strong interpersonal skills and experience building strong relationships with stakeholders and engaging teams.

    • Effectiveness in working within a large scale and complex matrix organization.

    • Excellent oral communication and writing skills, especially when interacting with non-executives and executive management across a number of business lines and control functions.

    • Must be a self-starter, flexible, innovative and adaptive.

    • Highly motivated, strong attention to detail, team oriented, and organized.

    • Strong presentation skills with the ability to articulate complex problems and solutions through concise and clear messaging.

    • Ability to work collaboratively with regional and global partners in other functional units.

    • Experience in managing regulatory exams and relationships with examiners, auditors, etc.

    For NYC Job Applicants: The base annual salary range for this position is $72,981-$129,375.  The exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, training, licensure and certifications and location.
