Become a Data Engineer Specialist position title at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow.  In this job, you'll be part of the Data Visualization group within Data Science and Asset Analytics.  This person will work with various organizations across SCE to automate data extracts, prepare calculated fields into usable DataMarts/tables and utilize visualization tools that provide insights and statistical views for our partners that drive their daily decision making.  You will also dive into coding methodologies to improve our automation capabilities and advance our visualization techniques.  As a Data Engineer Specialist, your work will help power our planet, reduce carbon emissions and create cleaner air for everyone.  Are you ready to take on the challenge to help us build the future? 

A day in the life - Get ready to think big, work smart and shine bright!

• Define and identify enterprise data sources. 
• Develop data pipelines and data transformation using platforms such as R, Python, SQL, and SAS to build and analyze large datasets.
• Develop and build data architecture to support data science analytics. 
• Develop automation processes to gather and route data to multiple local or cloud-based platforms.
• Collaborate with other Data Engineering and Data Science analytics groups to manage relevant sources of information on data engineering, data mining, acquisition, and retention as well as IT Teams to implement continuous improvement ideas and enhancements.

Qualifications

The essentials

• Three or more years of experience in data mining or data engineering.
• Experience working with Big Data tools such as SAP HANA, SAS, Hadoop, Snowflake, R, or Python. 

The preferred

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative subject area such as Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, or information sciences such as business analytics or informatics.
• One or more years of experience working with one of the following data visualization tools: SAS-VA, PowerBI, Tableau or Power Apps. 
• Formal Data analytics training/certification.
• Experience writing SQL queries and working with relational databases or experience programming with VBA. 
• Experience working in cross-functional teams.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written.
• Ability to develop communication materials (e.g., PowerPoint) and facilitate decision-making conversations with senior leadership.

You should know

• This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
