You will be accountable for implementing or directing actions independently to avoid or mitigate system electrical emergencies, including the authority to shed firm and interruptible load, if necessary. This position represents SCE as the single point of contact with the California Independent System Operator (CISO) for Utility Distribution Company (UDC) and Transmission operations.

The Power System Operations Specialist 2 (PSO2) resides in Grid Control’s Compliance and Training department within Southern California Edison’s (SCE) Transmission and Distribution (T&D) Operating Unit. As a PSO2 you will focus on Grid Operations compliance, training development/coordination and documentation needs, and will interact with multiple disciplines (e.g., engineering, planning, maintenance, legal, regulatory and audits) to ensure that SCE operations, training and compliance documentation is in alignment with SCE, NERC and other regulatory requirements.
Experience working with Grid Operations, specifically Grid Control and Capital Integration.
Stay abreast of upcoming compliance related issues (FERC, NERC, WECC and CPUC).
Review new and emerging federal regulations affecting operations and compliance.
Evaluate SCE Grid Operations policy changes or additions are in accordance with regulations.
Actively participate in groups/teams that shape the operations documentation and compliance posture of the California utilities.
Represent SCE at external operations and compliance meetings and workshops.
Represent Grid Operations in regulatory compliance internal meetings.
Participate in the development and coordination of operations and compliance related training.
Ensure that SCE operations documentation is in alignment with applicable regulatory standards (FERC, NERC, WECC, CAISO, and CPUC).
Ensure the ongoing gathering of evidence related to compliance audits.
Actively participate in the audit planning and presentation process.
Qualifications
The essentials
Four or more years’ experience in electric system operations.
Operational knowledge of the electric system, CISO operations and interconnected system operation.
Possess knowledge of CISO, NERC, RCWest and WECC operating policies, practices and procedures.
The preferred
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
Two or more years’ experience in dispatching transmission systems.
Thorough understanding of SCE bulk power transmission, sub-transmission and distribution systems.
Currently possess a NERC System Operator certification at Reliability Coordinator Level.
Experience in monitoring and overseeing all aspects of shift activity and providing leadership for a team at the SCE GCC that is responsible for ensuring reliable operation of the SCE electric system in a real-time environment.
Experience in making real-time decisions regarding operation of the SCE electric system that may have a direct effect on system reliability or SCE as a corporation.
Operational knowledge of the SCE and relevant neighboring utility electrical systems to ensure reliable interconnected system operations.
