The Technology and Electronics Laboratory Senior Specialist of Asset Strategy & Planning (ASP) will primarily support SCE’s Grid Modernization efforts.     There are multiple laboratories within the ASP group that carry out the work being done in support of SCE's grid modernization efforts. The Technology and Electronics Laboratory Senior Specialist will facilitate the safe and efficient operations at five (5) SCE lab facilities and serve as a subject matter expert for lab related activities. The Sr. Specialist will work with Lab Leads, Lab Manager and the engineering group to perform technical and non-technical lab activities. Technical activities will include working alongside the engineering groups to develop test platforms critical to lab testing. Non-technical activities will include assisting Lab Lead/Lab Manager in the day-to-day operational lab activities. The Sr. Specialist must work independent of specific instructions and procedures while adhering to company policy and will be responsible for providing guidance to management on lab operations.

    This position will report directly to the Lab Manager of the Technology Portfolio Management (TPM) department - under the Business Planning & Technology (BP&T) organizational.

    • Perform procurement of lab assets and lab infrastructure
    • Perform low voltage electrical work for the installation and removal of data acquisition systems
    • Propose, create and carry out operational and safety procedures for specific lab activities
    • Assist in the management of external vendors while on SCE sites
    • Provide insight to corrective and preventative action activities and play a key role as principal investigator in quality assurance issues
    • Maintain all calibrated equipment by updating asset locations and sending to calibration lab when required
    • Leading all aspects of lab activities at our Pomona test facilities

    The primary work location for this position is Pomona (TSD & PIV Facilities), however you may also be asked to work on occasion at the Westminster (Fenwick & SSID) sites.

    Qualifications

    The essentials

    • Five (5) years or more of experience with electrical theory, electrical components, safety and design 
    • Experience developing technical, safety and/or operational documentation
    • Experience managing vendors and vendor activities as they relate to Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO)

    The preferred

    • Associates Degree or higher in Business, Electrical Engineering, STEM or related field
    • Experience working in a laboratory facility/operation setting 
    • Experience with quality management systems and in the quality assurance field
    • Experience working with electric utility power systems
    • Experience developing and communicating ideas and information effectively to diverse audiences through oral presentations and written communications, specifically developing and delivering technical presentations to a technical and non-technical audience
    • Experience interfacing effectively and collaborating with internal employees, third party entities, and all levels of management to ensure stakeholder consensus

    • This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.

    • Position will require up to 10% traveling to our Westminster, CA sites.
    • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.

    Testing

    • This position requires testing and applicants who are identified to continue through the selection process will be invited to test via email. Candidates who have previously passed these assessment(s), in some cases, may not need to retest again for this position.
