We do, too.Location/Region: Carlsbad / USAReports to: Senior Director, ManufacturingPosition Summary: The Sr. Manager, Technical Operations & Engineering manages a team of scientists, engineers and technicians that support Sciex manufacturing operations, and is responsible for manufacturing line support (both manufacturing engineering and chemistry formulation), continuous process improvements, equipment life cycle management, automation, and sustaining engineering. This role supports Key Performance Indicator (KPI) metrics such as safety, internal quality, value engineering savings, productivity improvements, and on time delivery, leveraging Danaher Business System (DBS) tools and lean manufacturing/continuous improvement principles. In this role, the Sr Manager, Technical Operations & Engineering works closely with Manufacturing Production, R&D, Quality Control/ Quality Assurance (QC/QA), Procurement, and the Finance/Accounting teams to establish and execute the priorities for the Carlsbad Manufacturing (CBD MFG) team.Essential Duties, Critical Success Factors, Responsibilities, Authorities and Required Interactions: Leadership responsibilities:Carries out managerial responsibilities for staff, including but not limited to development, performance evaluations, engagement, hiring and terminations.Leads in a global environment - Demonstrates an appropriate level of eye for business, including an understanding of how your own role contributes to Sciex meeting its strategic goals.Work cross functionally with R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Quality to develop processes for new products and improve processes for existing products.Aligns business priorities and deploy adequate resources toward completion of parallel multiple continuous improvement & compliance related project initiatives.Listens and responds to customer needs - Understands customer expectations and end-user needs to sustain our products.Cultivates and enables breakthrough thinking to drive growth - Generates new ideas and solutions by making connections between customer needs and technologies or processes to meet these needs.Operational responsibilities:Manages implementations of technology solutions that improve business processes, increase productivity, and eliminate waste.Leads both manufacturing engineering and technical operations to consistently deliver on commitments and drive results.Responsible for new lab set-up, equipment validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), test method validation and process validation of reagent consumablesLeads the team in root cause investigations of quality related issues.Construct and execute controlled experiments (including DOE's) to optimize processes, address yield and quality issues and drive implementation of solutions in a production environment to meet production goalsWork with subject matter experts to build out the future applications roadmap that supports the objectives.Drive the use of DBS principles and tools in implementing solutions.Effectively manage sustainment projects using other resources as needed.Drive the process improvement projects to impact product quality, cost and performance by utilizing value analysis/ value Engineering (VAVE) methodologies.Develop, maintain, and enforce technical standards, policies, and SOPs within your team.Experience with design/process characterization methods and analysis, analytical test method characterization and validation, statistical process control.Experience with risk management methods (FMEA), problem resolution methods (8D, Fish-Bone, etc), non-conformance and deviation management.Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:B.S. Required. (M.S. or Ph.D. preferred) Preferably in Chemistry, Bio-Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemical or Bio-Medical Engineering.Prefer 8 or more years of industry experience in product/process development and manufacturingPrefer 2 or more years of experience as a functional managerWork experience in the life sciences, biotech/biopharma or clinical diagnostics industries is desirableDemonstrated ability to successfully lead, coach and mentor direct reports requiredExperience working in an ISO13485 or FDA certified environment is desirableExperience in high mix-low volume production in a high-tech consumables industry is desirableThe salary range for this role is $144,200 to $160,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
