About our group:
You will be working in the HAMR Media Design, Process and Product Integration group at the Seagate Recording Media Research Center in Fremont, CA, where we develop the materials, processes and design directions for HAMR magnetic recording media to further extend data storage capacity. The team works closely with other teams in the organization such as the test, metrology and equipment groups, the materials science lab, and our counterparts in the various Seagate organizations around the world. Together we develop the next generation of storage devices.
About the role - you will:
The candidate will work with other engineers in the Magnetic Metrology and Media Physics group at Seagate Recording Media R&D center to develop and improve existing micromagnetic modeling tools for studying the media switching process and understand recording physics of Pependicar media and advanced recording media, such as HAMR (Heat Assited Magnetic Recording).
Responsibilities include:
- Learning the existing micromagnetic models (including both single grain and system-level models)
- Assist with the development of new modeling capability (including GPU acceleration) for studying media Physics ECC media
- Understanding magnetic property and recording performance
- Other responsibilities include comparing measurements results with modeling results to understand the underlying media Physics
About you:
- Ph.D. or MS in Physics, Applied Physics, electrical engineering, or related field is preferred
- Strong experience and skill set using micromagnetic recording models
- Other helpful skills include:
- experience with GPU
- proficient communication
- ability to work independently and as part of a team in a creative environment
Your experience includes:
Strong physics background in magnetism, recording Physics understanding and proficient programming skills with fortran, Matlab, C++ and GPU would be strong plus
