Horizontal Directional Driller

JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for running Vermeer horizontal directional drill rigs and equipment supporting a major telecommunications infrastructure project. HDD Driller will work directly with HDD Locator for guidance during drilling operations. This position is required to travel 80% of the time to complete different projects as needed.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates horizontal directional drill for installation of underground telecommunications cable conduit including fiber optic cable.
Operate construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications.
Level earth to final grade specifications.
Vehicle and equipment operations from trucks to other equipment as directed and certified.
Ensure safety of the public and other utilities underground facilities.
Level earth to final grad specifications.
Measure distance from grade stakes, lasers, and GPS coordinates.
Move and relocate RF and Fiber services.
Perform all duties according to prescribe safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment.
Perform proper maintenance by greasing, oiling and making minor repairs on equipment.
Read utility locates and coordinate day lighting of facilities.
Ensure all applicable permits and located are complete and on site.
Set up and cleanup of work site including traffic and pedestrian control.
Leads team in the field effectively and efficiently as needed and directed by supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Required Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
This position is required to travel 80% of the time to complete different projects as needed.

Required Education
High school diploma or GED
Required Related Work Experience and Number of Years
2 years of Horizontal Drill experience preferred
Practical working experience with underground construction for both conduit and fiber installation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
OSHA safety certifications
Operator Qualifications
Class A or B CDL
Valid driver's license
Clean driving record

Preferred Education

5 years of Horizontal Drill experience preferred.
Practical working experience with underground construction and equipment for both conduit and fiber installation.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work outdoors in all kinds of weather and at all times of the day or night
Work performed near power lines and electricity
May require extended hours including evenings and weekends

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical Requirements
Lift and carry up to 50lbs
Requires bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
