BE PART OF THE CONNECTION

As a Principal Engineer II on the Wireless Core Engineering team, the selected candidate will be a Lead Individual Contributor responsible for researching, planning, designing, and testing wireless technologies related to supporting and improving Charter's Wireless service offerings. The selected candidate will work with cross functional teams and advise leadership. The selected candidate will provide technology leadership and drive the Wireless Technology roadmap with stakeholders and partners.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Actively and consistently supports all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience

  • Evaluates business requirements and designs detailed architectures based on those requirements

  • Designs, implements, monitors, enhances and troubleshoots systems in assigned areas.

  • Mentors, trains, and guides the work of technical staff (including engineering and operations personnel, and peers)

  • Researches, designs and documents wireless systems and related technologies in support of Wireless networks

  • Produces required Technical documentation, and reviews and improves documentation and designs

  • Establishes the integrity, viability, functionality and capacity of wireless system architectures by writing and executing detailed test plans and documenting test results

  • Tests and certifies wireless systems and related technologies for features, compatibility, interoperability, function and capacity and documents the relevant results

  • Evaluates vendors, products, and solutions - including technical and financial aspects - without bias or predisposition to make informed recommendations and fully documents findings

  • Participates in budgeting processes by advising leadership of financial aspects of selected technology solutions

  • Provides Engineering Technical support and guidance to operations and engineering personnel and ensures all technical standards and documentation requirements are met

  • Creates presentation material, and technical papers; and presents information related to architectures, designs, and standards to others (including Charter engineering and operations personnel, peers, standards bodies, industry conferences and leadership)

  • Engages with standards bodies and represents Charter's interests regarding standards and the future of relevant technology

  • Interacts with and manages tasks with members of cross-functional teams

  • Interacts with vendors and suppliers to understand and minimize the financial impacts of selected products and solutions

  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously without supervision

  • Adheres to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable

  • Knows, understands and follows company policy

  • Performs other duties as requested by manager

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO SPECTRUM

Required Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • 10+ years of engineering work experience
    • 10+ years of project management work experience
  • Education:
    Master's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or combination of a lesser degree in combination with relevant experience
    • Deep knowledge and Experience in Wireless Systems and related technologies
    • Knowledge and Experience in creating engineering documentation packages including Engineering Design Document, Data Flow Diagram, Call Flow Diagram, Implementation Guide, Operations Guide, Maintenance Guide, Method of Procedure, Technical Bulletin, Test Plan, and Test Results
    • Knowledge and Experience in Linux systems administration, application and OS tuning
    • Advanced knowledge and experience with 3GPP technical standards including those related to wireless, mobile, and voice communications
    • Advanced knowledge of and experience with Kubernetes (Rancher preferred) including networking and persistant storage
    • Advanced knowledge of and experience with 5G Core network functions
    • Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with managers, employees, customers, vendors, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner
    • Advanced Knowledge of related industry specifications, standards, technologies and protocols
    • Advanced Knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology
    • Advanced Knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model
    • Advanced Knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations.
    • Advanced Knowledge of network devices and network appliances
    • Advanced knowledge of computer servers and various operating systems (https://e.g. Linux, Windows)
    • Advanced knowledge of productivity software, such as Visio, PowerPoint, Word, and Excel
    • Ability to perform duties in a fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quickly
    • Ability to use personal computer and software applications
    • Ability to communicate with all levels of management
    • Ability to prioritize and organize effectively
  • Travel Ability: Office Environment
  • Schedule:
    • Full time

    • This position is eligible to work in a hybrid work model (combination of in-office and remote days)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Skills /Abilities and Knowledge

    • Knowledge of and experience with Ericsson 5G core components
    • Knowledge of and experience with Nokia 5G core components
    • Knowledge of and experience with Nokia AAA server (formerly ALU 8950)
  • Industry and vendor specific certifications and training preferred (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc.)
