From plumbers to limo drivers, contractors to barbers, service professionals make up more than half of the worldwide economy. The Services Team is building an intelligent software suite, centered around the needs of the millions of merchants in the Services industry, empowering them to run their entire business on Square. We build mobile-first functionality to help them manage their, appointments, payments, schedules, estimates and invoices.

As a software engineer (iOS) on the Services Point of Sale Team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and owning the applications and infrastructure required to make our merchants succeed. We encourage engineers to lead and influence roadmaps, driving large features reaching from UI to API design. We are a small, focused team with great growth and impact opportunities.

Square is growing our Point of Sale products, we work to enable those merchants to take payments and manage their business from anywhere.



  • Work in a modern Swift codebase

  • Work closely with product management, design and internal teams to understand needs and develop solutions to improving operations and end-user experience.

  • Be responsible for the entirety of your features including client structure, server interactions, API design, implementation and automated testing.

  • Own and drive improvements on app architecture

  • Improve developer experience for their teammates and others

  • Visit merchants to see the product(s) in action

  • Give opportunities to stretch yourself by learning new technologies


  • Innate curiosity and a desire to be responsible for all aspects of building Square mobile Point of Sale in a small, highly focused team

  • Strong knowledge of CS fundamentals and code organization.

  • Experience developing apps for iOS in Objective-C and/or Swift.

  • A consistent track record of shipping quality software that positively impacts your end customer.

  • A keen sense for how to make trade offs when building features and systems.

  • 3+ years of software development experience or equivalent
