Business Development Associate

We are looking for a high quality, proactive junior salesperson (Business Development Associate) to join an energetic and focused Swiss institutional team which is currently composed of one experienced Senior Relationship Manager, an Associate Relationship Manager, a Senior Client Relations Manager and a Distribution Assistant. The Country Marketing Manager role is shared with the Swiss Financial Intermediaries Team. The Swiss IB sales team is part of Capital's non US institutional business which currently manages relationships totalling $29bn.

This associate will work with the Senior Relationship Manager (RM) responsible for developing Capital's Institutional business in Switzerland, one of Capital's six priority markets in Europe. They will act as the main day-to-day contact between Swiss prospects and Capital, playing a key role in the generation of leads and meetings (including cold calling) and working with the RM to win business. The role reports to the Senior Relationship Manager in charge of the Swiss Institutional Business.

We expect the successful candidate to be based in our Zurich office but with the flexibility to travel within Switzerland, in order to help build sales activity with our prospects. There will also be short trips throughout the year both to our London office. This office houses the majority of our European Distribution associates as well as other relevant departments (e.g. Marketing, Investment professionals).

This role has an excellent career path into the senior sales role at one of the world's largest and most well respected asset managers.

Primary responsibilities/essential functions:

Sales process

  • Generating, preparing for and participating in prospecting meetings with the RM and coordinating all follow-up items

  • Making outbound calls to introduce Capital and secure meetings with prospects

  • Representing Capital at industry conferences / seminars, ensuring we maximise prospecting opportunities by preparing thoroughly prior to the event, proactively networking during the event and diligently following up afterwards

  • Handling prospect requests for information through multiple channels (inbound calls, web searches etc)

  • Proactively managing and resolving internal issues relating to winning business (such as expediting fee discussions)

  • Liaison with Investment Professionals, other RMs, BDAs and internal departments (Marketing, Fee Consulting, RFP team, Legal etc) as part of the sales cycle

  • Maintaining information on prospects, target institutions and updating critical management information about prospects and clients into the required systems

  • Coordination and occasional customisation of materials for use with prospects to create interest and build relationships

Strategic market planning

  • Market research on our target institutions

  • Development and exploration of new areas for business development

  • Involvement in business planning alongside the RM and working with Business Management

Internal projects and Departmental participation

  • Work as part of a collegial team of BDAs that shares ideas and best practices

  • Work as part of a broader European Distribution group committed to building Capital's business in Europe

Skills/qualifications:

  • Language skills: fluency in English as well as German and French

  • High quality interpersonal skills, especially influencing skills

  • Demonstrable experience building new business (including cold calling and relationship building)

  • Experience of presenting to prospects, advisors, clients or colleagues

  • High energy, hard-working, enthusiastic, focused and professional

  • Financial / Investment and Asset Management knowledge

  • Comfortable discussing financial topics with prospects

  • Graduate degree preferable

  • Related professional exams or studying towards CFA
