Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of key topics and considerations to conduct analysis. Distills research, demonstrates deep expertise with proxy voting guidelines, and authors recommendations. May consult more senior team members on most complex matters.
Leads standalone research efforts on a wide range of topics, based on requests.
Proactively and independently identifies high-profile or contentious proxy votes and prioritizes and monitors accordingly. Leads resolution on most complex matters.
Demonstrates a strategic understanding of team priorities and effectively leads the team.
Drives clear, concise, and consistent guidance research in the team.
Company engagement and communication:
Demonstrates credibility meeting with issuers and IG on high profile issue engagement. Identifies issues which may warrant proactive engagement and leads/co-leads engagement meetings. Captures notes accurately and timely, including ongoing questions.
Identifies opportunities for enhancement to engagement process and drives enhancements. Proactively monitors team's adherence to process and holds team accountable for delivering. Designs and leads thematic engagements.
Communicates clearly, concisely, and confidently and adapts communication style appropriately. Distills complex topics in simple terms and credibly influence the audience.
Supports CG's stewardship communication strategy, in partnership with key internal stakeholders, to deliver external publications of voting records and case studies.
Leads and drives forward team discussion and debate for direction and clarity.
Ensures appropriate communication and collaboration with the broader ESG team (e.g., ESG Analysts). Proactively monitors the team's adherence to process and adjusts as needed. Partners with leadership team to drive cross-team collaboration.
Impact:
Viewed as a thought leader with industry, regulatory, and market events and trends.
Consistently shares knowledge with a broad audience beyond the ESG team. Leads team training opportunities and distills implications to CG.
Demonstrates a strategic forward-thinking mindset. Identifies key initiatives across a broad range of topics and leads/co-leads execution with senior leadership and project team.
Identifies opportunities for innovation, often in less defined or familiar areas, and leads execution.
Represents the firm as a credible expert at industry events and/or collective engagement opportunities.
Risk management:
Demonstrates a risk awareness mindset and understands and proactively leads the implementation of enhancements to team policies, procedures, and controls.
Internal groups (GSI, proxy voting guidelines, proxy committees):
Leads/co-leads GSI research, analysis, and communications.
Leads/co-leads the annual proxy guidelines and principles review. Leads research to influence Guideline Committee decisions on best-in-class Governance norms, customization of guidelines, and flags ad hoc issues which may require attention.
Proactively identifies emerging issues governance and proxy issues, research and make recommendations on how to address them.
Teamwork and internal and external relationships:
Viewed as a credible expert and leads CG's stewardship perspective internally and externally.
Builds strong relationships with the IG and viewed as a key resource for governance thought leadership.
Learning and development:
Has established strong external networks.
Coaches and mentors less experienced team members and partners with leadership team to provide feedback.
May act as a reporting manager for associates and provide career and development guidance.
Reporting and case study generation:
Provides coaching in the preparation of case studies from the team/region for use in client and stewardship reporting and presentation materials.
Performs additional responsibilities as assigned.

Southern California Base Salary Range: $140,995-$225,592
San Francisco Base Salary Range: $155,456-$248,730
New York Base Salary Range: $149,462-$239,139
In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital's annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
