As a Director and Data Scientist, you will support and influence our Middle and Large Commercial business function as this organization continues to increase the efficiency and efficacy of its business strategies and critical decision making via data and analytics. You will be proposing, scoping, and leading the execution of data-driven business solutions. You will leverage Python, predictive modeling, and AWS technologies, and help advance know-how and standards of use for these across the data science team. Your models will be used to make faster and better decisions to facilitate profitable growth, and you will be a thought-partner and influencer to drive understanding, adoption, and evolution.
Responsibilities:
Lead execution on a research agenda to grow a book of insurance business.
Be self-directed in designing, executing, and implementing data and analytics solutions, including professional-grade coding and documentation standards.
Provide thought leadership – act as an internal technical consultant to own department and business customers.
Develop deep knowledge of The Hartford's formal and informal structures, business processes, and data sources.
Leverage expert knowledge of advanced analytics by executing changes to core business processes to maximize profitability and growth.
Drive improvements in how the team/company leverages new technologies and algorithms.
Work with operations and product groups to identify key metrics, coordinate with resources to incorporate those KPIs into a delivery platform, and drive organizational efficiencies by eliminating redundancies and non value-add analytics.
Provide technical guidance/leadership to individuals and teams on statistical, operational, or technical problems.
Explore new data sources and analytical techniques to ensure ongoing competitive advantage.
Develop patterns to execute rapidly on ad-hoc analysis and fully repeatable processes on larger projects. Support and exemplify templatizing of analytics work where appropriate.
Minimum Experience:
Must be authorized to work in the US now, and in the future.
Master’s or PhD in Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Quantitative Economics, Data Science, or similar analytical field.
5+ years of relevant experience in a data science or applied analytics role.
Subject matter expert in modeling, data, and analytical capabilities utilizing Python.
Success in designing, developing, and implementing analytics-driven solutions to business problems.
Experience with gathering data from structured databases (i.e. Oracle, Hive, etc.).
Preferred Skills:
Experience with data science in an insurance environment.
Experience with Amazon Web Services.
Experience with database RDBMS technologies (i.e. Oracle, SQL Server, Teradata, etc.) as well as big data technologies (i.e. HDFS, S3, Hive, Spark, Snowflake, etc.).
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$124,560 - $186,840
