The Finance Director role will serve as one of the Finance Leads for Claims and Operations Finance and directly manage a team of finance consultants responsible for budgeting/forecasting, reporting, and analytical insight, who provide support across all Claims and Operations functions. In addition, this role will act as a liaison between multiple business and financial partners to strengthen the Finance function with a deeper emphasis on insight. It will work closely with the Claims and Operations leadership team as a strategic partner and trusted advisor to provide financial insight, guidance, and development of a financial and staffing plan that drive and support strategic outcomes.
Specific responsibilities will include:
Be a Thought Partner: Recommend solutions and help drive business decisions; guide the customer towards solutions that drive and support strategic outcomes
Own the financials, apply a financial lens to customer inputs, and use metrics to challenge business inputs and drive financial efficiency. Ensure metrics and financials support alignment to volumes and premium.
Develop and maintain a solid understanding of operational models and the businesses they support. Build a strong partnership with the staff modeling team to create transparency, better support expense optimization and deliver business outcomes.
Analyze, monitor, measure and effectively report Claims and Operations business results; responsible for the accuracy, timeliness, and relevance of financial and management reporting.
Ensure financial outlooks, operating plans and other financial analyses support strategic focus and operational commitments.
Drive continuous improvement in management reporting, metrics and forecasting with a mindset for developing more predictive and prescriptive analytics and reporting while automating or eliminating low value activities.
Provide financial leadership and analysis in the development and ongoing monitoring of CBAs for Claims and Operations initiatives. Ensure appropriate inclusion of benefits in forecasted financials as well as ongoing reporting after implementation. Ensure claims and operations initiatives are balanced between expense and loss risk and do not increase indemnity leakage.
Provide input and counsel regarding risks and opportunities and serve as a critical voice in helping shape the financial strategy and vision for the organization.
Develop strong working relationships throughout Claims and Operations and the broader HIG enterprise and be a valuable contributor in the development and execution of the overall strategy of Claims and Operations and The Hartford.
Experience and Qualifications:
Degree in finance or accounting or equivalent work experience is required and a CPA or MBA is a plus. Claims or Operations experience is also a plus.
Strong financial and business acumen. Ability to leverage data to translate operational performance into financial implications and influence future strategies.
5 or more years coaching and mentoring financial analysts in a fast-paced environment while supporting high level of employee engagement and development. Minimum of 10 years of professional experience.
Must have excellent communication, presentation, and consultative skills and must be comfortable and confident in frequently interacting with senior leaders on a variety of complex business and financial issues.
Highly motivated and inquisitive, possess the ability to think and execute both strategically and tactically, accepting of a great deal of accountability, and able to work in a team environment.
Possess strong problem-solving skills with a proven ability to develop recommendations based on solid analytics that address the root cause and explain impacts to business performance.
Possess strong to advanced EXCEL skills. TM1 experience a plus.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$126,560 - $189,840
