    The Hartford Personal Lines Data and Analytics department seeks an energetic and passionate Director and Lead Machine Learning Engineer to lead Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) practice for Data Science teams. Our Data science team has developed industry-leading capabilities, driving streamlined processes and smarter decision making. We support a variety of functions including Product, Underwriting and Sales. As a Director and Lead Machine Learning Engineer within the MLOps team, you will lead machine learning engineers and play a significant role in ensure build reliable, reproducible software applications and standardization of the MLOps pipeline on the cloud.

    Responsibilities

    • Independently research, experiment and implement solutions for building and deploy ML applications in AWS cloud.
    • Build robust, flexible and fault-tolerant architecture for MLOps framework using cloud based technologies.
    • Contribute to coding, testing and maintenance of real-time and batch services for AI/ML models.
    • Review work with leadership and partners on an ongoing basis to calibrate deliverables against expectations.
    • Accountable for ownership of design, development, and maintenance of AI/ML Model Services.
    • Work with junior engineers to lead, mentor and provide thought leadership.
    • Collaborate and co-develop solutions with enterprise partners from data, cloud, security, and technology organizations. 
    • Own the delivery of critical milestones for model deployment in the AWS cloud.
    • Adopt MLOps and devOps industry best practices within the team and promote to the data science community.
    • Build powerpoint presentation and documentations to effectively communicate proposals and architectural solutions to senior leaders and business partners.

    Minimum Requirements

    • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. now and in the future.
    • Master’s degree in related field or 7+ years of equivalent experience in a research function.
    • Experience leading and managing software development teams.
    • Fundamentally strong with data structures and algorithms.
    • Hands on experience in design, development  and deployment of RESTful API web services in Cloud environment using Python or Java.
    • Experience building CICD pipeline using Jenkins or equivalent for automating.
    • Experience in end to end model development lifecycle from ideation through post production.
    • Delivery of critical milestones for model deployment in the cloud will be the primary success criteria for this position.
    • Experience with Solution Design and Architecture of data and ML pipelines.
    • Exposure to Container based development and Service Oriented Architecture.
    • Aptitude to learn new technologies, tools and processes.

    Preferred Skills:

    • Lead experience for design and development WebService API with AWS suite of Tools.
    • Hands on experience with Python Flask or Spring Boot.
    • Experience working with  Cloudformation/Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes and EC2 and Cloud Storage.
    • Basic understanding of ML frameworks i.e. Tensorflow, Anacoda, Scikit Learn, H20, Sage Maker.
    • Experience with Agile framework.

    Compensation

    The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
