Position summary

JOB DESCRIPTION: Asia Editor, Asian Legal Business

Thomson Reuters is seeking a experienced journalist and editor based in either Mumbai or Bengaluru to join Asian Legal Business (ALB) as its Asia Editor. This newly created role will oversee production of the flagship ALB Asia title, and two regional e-magazines, each published every alternate month. Apart from setting the editorial agenda for these publications, the role will be responsible for editing and proofreading, guiding journalists in structuring/writing stories, and watching over the production process. Some amount of writing will also be involved.  The ideal candidate will also have some amount of commercial acumen, able to spot opportunities, and communicate the same to sales. This role will involve working with colleagues, internal stakeholders, and clients across the Asian region.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the ALB Asia print magazine, as well as the bi-monthly ALB Japan and ALB India e-magazines

Set the editorial agenda, assign and guide writers on stories

Edit and proofread content, rewrite as needed

Oversee the production process and ensure deadlines are met

Assist in the writing and editing of web news and features

Assist in the production of videos and podcasts

Occasional writing, as well as editing of other English content, as required

Build network among law firms and in-house counsel across the Asian region

Assist sales in delivering on commercial targets

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

At least 8 years of experience in journalism, with some amount of people management experience

Legal education or experience in the legal industry is a massive plus

An excellent writer with sound editing chops

Some amount of commercial acumen, but more importantly, the ability to see the commercial side of things

Online experience: SEO, social media, videos, podcasts etc would be very helpful

Self-starter able to make decisions without regular supervision

Able to stick to hard deadlines

Persuasive and able to work well with a wide variety of stakeholders

Exceptional attention to detail

Strong networker able to build relationships quickly

Able to work quickly and cope with occasional pressure situations

Collaborative and easy to get along with
