Position summary

Associate DB Solutions Architect

We are currently seeking a DB focused cloud solutions architect who combines solid technical credentials and experience with a high degree of business acumen for a position within our Platform Engineering team.  In this role, you will collaborate with technology peers and business partners to design and improve cloud native software applications, databases and services for Thomson Reuters. 

As part of the Platform Engineering organization, you will be part of a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, energetic, and high performing team at the heart of the Thomson Reuters transformation to developing cloud native applications and services. This group is nimble and creative and will shape our technology roadmap.  This role will be instrumental to enabling the current and future world of cloud computing at Thomson Reuters. You will be challenged with working in a team to identify innovative ideas and proof of concepts to deliver against existing and future needs of our customers.

About the Role

As an Associate DB Solutions Architect, you will: 

Leadership & Communication (30%) 

  • Collaborate with other Architects and Engineers building cloud services.
  • Collaborate with teams across the business to set standards and best practices in DB migration, selection and use.
  • Communicating risk assessments.
  • Contribute to, influence, or direct a variety of DB migration and modernization projects concurrently.
  • Provide technical governance of projects to ensure adherence with standards.
  • Provide technical recommendations to senior management.
  • Mentor less senior members of the technology teams.

Strategy (20%)

  • Provide support for creating centers of excellence for cloud data services.
  • Make formal and informal technical presentations.
  • Lead meetings.
  • Establish and develop partnerships with strategic vendors.

Technology (40%)

  • Establish, enhance and communicate cloud-native database architecture and engineering best practices
  • Subject matter expert developing an approach and communicating the corresponding benefits of utilizing cloud databases to our business units
  • Understand and incorporate security best practices for the cloud, partnering with internal security team.
  • Define processes to best utilize people and tools to solve problems.

Financial Responsibility (10%)

  • Provide financial analysis for technology decisions.
  • Devise strategies and architectures to optimize consumption of cloud resources.

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Associate DB Solutions Architect if you have:

  • Ability to collaborate with teams across the business to set standards and best practices
  • Ability to contribute to, influence, or direct a variety of projects concurrently.
  • Ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to lead meetings
  • Effectively partner with and lead/influence BU project teams (architects and engineers) building cloud services.
  • Technical understanding of relational databases and best practices
  • Technical understanding of application use of databases
  • Experience modernizing from relational databases to modern nosql, graph or other fit for purposes databases a plus.
  • Technical understanding of cloud-native architecture and engineering best practices
  • Experience building software following cloud native architecture methodologies
  • Extensive expertise working with AWS and/or Azure
  • 8+ years of software development experience with 2+ years of relevant cloud experience
  • BS/BA degree in Computer Science OR equivalent industry experience
