Director of Technology, Research Products
Are you passionate about the chance to bring your strong leadership, product delivery experience, compassion, and enthusiasm to transform and deliver the next generation of Thomson Reuters market leading research products? The Research Products Engineering team is looking to add a technology director who will work with experts from many disciplines to lead our research products platform team. This role would report to the Vice President of Research Products Engineering. Vital to the position is an emphasis on quality products and the career development of team members.
Thomson Reuters Research Products are based on a common, strategic platform that enables delivery teams to design robust, high-volume, highly reliable, highly available web products and services for our customers. This position would be responsible for leading our Cobalt Platform module development communities, our research platform charges and billing team, and leading the transformation of our portfolio of research products as we migrate the Cobalt Platform to the Amazon Cloud.
About the Role
In this opportunity as Director of Technology, Research Products, you will:
Be a People Leader: Enthusiastically manage and motivate multiple teams of on-site and remote software engineers with varied skills and experience levels. Coach and mentor current and future leaders within the group; be responsible for proactively identifying individual training needs, conducting performance evaluations, and maintaining a healthy team culture.
Be a Project Leader: Strategically plan, design, and implement software to deliver value to customers. Manage multiple projects simultaneously, gathering time and resource estimates. Drive productivity improvements.
Be a Technical Leader: Implement best practices as a knowledge expert in SDLC, object-oriented software design, customer analytics, testing and release, and working in an agile framework. Advocate for quality, performance, scale, and agility within the team and with stakeholders. Ensure design and architecture are aligned with the global platform strategy and consider industry trends. Ensure fundamental quality practices are followed in the development lifecycle, such as automated unit tests and integration tests.
Be an efficient Stakeholder Manager: Collaborate and engage with external and internal stakeholders such as business teams and product owners to bring products to market. Act as a point of contact in resolving stakeholder issues.
Be Customer-Driven: Deliver high-quality, reliable solutions that ensure our Products are highly available, available, and performant.
Be a Decision Maker: Utilize problem-solving and analytical skills to make quick and effective data-driven decisions and roll-out strategies that align with company goals.
About You
You’re a fit for the role of Director of Technology, Research Products if your background includes:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in a software engineering or related discipline
7+ years of software development leadership
Ability to understand, evaluate and discuss technical integration scenarios and architectural concepts
Experience with Agile methodologies and understanding of modern web/SaaS technologies and systems
Excellent critical thinking, communication, presentation, documentation, troubleshooting, and collaborative problem-solving skills
Some travel is required as this position manages a global team, but not more than 10% of the time
A management style that is collaborative, energetic, and results-oriented
Comfortable operating in a dynamic, fast-changing, and innovative environment
Ability to influence others, earn followership, and drive consensus across stakeholder groups
The ability to flex styles to work well with a range of personalities from extremely technical team members to non-technical business leaders
