Position summary

Director, Service Engineering – Platform Engineering

Our Service Engineering leader will be responsible for leading a global team of engineers focused on developing and providing product solutions more quickly and efficiently across our in the in the public cloud and on-premise estate. 

You will join our Platform Engineering organization, a fast-paced, energetic, and high performing team at the heart of Thomson Reuters.

About the Role

As Director, Service Engineering – Platform Engineering, you will report to the Vice President of Service Engineering and will:

  • Collaborate with Service Architecture to collectively define and own the vision for the capabilities/services, aligning to company strategy and evangelizing throughout Thomson Reuters
  • Partner with other leaders within Platform Engineering to craft creative solutions and patterns that can be leveraged across Product Segments
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance for service engineering teams
  • Drive cohesion, standards, and best practices across platform services and capabilities in collaborations with application teams, security, compliance, and external vendors
  • Build a strong culture of engineering excellence and industry best practices
  • Coach, develop, and lead a diverse global team of ~50 people

Engineering for the following capabilities is currently within the scope of this role:

  • Cloud Landing Zones (AWS, Azure, GCP, OCI)
  • Compute Services
  • Cost Management and Compliance solutions
  • Network Services

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Director, Service Engineering – Platform Engineering if you possess the following skills and experiences:

  • Be a Cloud evangelist and advocate to push the envelope on what’s possible
  • Provide leadership and direction to a team of Cloud engineers
  • Collaborate with technology peers to identify prioritized areas for service development and improvement while evangelizing new solutions
  • Partner with enablement and product delivery teams to increase adoption of shared capabilities
  • Direct line management responsibilities for global teams, delivering performance reviews, and defining annual department goals/metrics
  • Ability to flex styles to work well with a range of stakeholders from extremely technical engineers to non-technical business leaders.
  • A management style that is collaborative, energetic, and results-oriented.

You must also have the ability to:

  • Work with others to develop joint solutions and break down internal barriers.
  • Share information openly, broadly & deliberately.
  • Try new things, shift from “why we can’t” to “how we could”
  • Reduce complexity
  • Take ownership, acting with accountability and urgency
  • Speak up, share ideas and encourage others to do the same

Additional Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent with relevant work designing and engineering in cloud native applications.
  • Leading application modernization efforts leveraging capabilities on AWS or Azure
  • Experience with infrastructure automation, infrastructure as code, application networking/routing, and database automation
  • Experience with containers and associated technologies including Docker, Mesos, and/or Kubernetes in production workloads
  • Working knowledge of programming and scripting languages: Python, Ruby, Perl, Bash, Javascript or similar languages
  • Passion for customer success via deep desire to exceed expectations and Service Level Agreements
  • Certifications in AWS or Azure preferred.
