Fact-Checking Editor, Brazil

Reuters has an exciting opportunity for an experienced journalist to join our well-regarded fact-checking team, working on an expansion of the project into Brazil.

We are looking for a determined and diligent news editor who is deeply familiar with Brazilian politics, shows excellent editorial judgement and who can write and edit clear and precise articles in Portuguese.

About this job

As our Fact-Checking Editor, Brazil, you will:

• Detect and research misinformation on social media relating to politics, health and other current affairs.
• Prioritize quickly, delegate work effectively and ensure the highest standards are maintained, even under time pressure. 
• Oversee two local fact-checking producers
• Work with a global team to share best practices and standards

About you

To be our Fact-Checking Editor, Brazil, you are likely to have: 

• Proven experience in reporting on Brazilian politics or current affairs 
• A questioning approach and a commitment to upholding our values of accuracy and impartiality
• Prior experience in fact-checking, verification or social media newsgathering work would bring an advantage 
• Fluent Portuguese and good spoken English
• A track record of writing and editing clear, unambiguous copy
• Confidence navigating social media platforms and identifying memes and trends
• Strong organizational skills and excellent editorial judgment
