Senior Legal Editor, Real Estate, California - Remote

This is a dynamic job that allows you to fully utilize and continuously expand your skills and develop information and technology solutions. Our subscribers include most major international law firms and corporations, including approximately 90% of the Am Law 200, hundreds of small and mid-size firms, and over 1,800 legal departments worldwide.  

About the Role: 

In this opportunity as a Senior Legal Editor, you will:  

  • Take on a leadership role for the Practical Law Real Estate Service, driving content planning and development of new resources for attorneys handling a variety of routine and complex real estate matters in California.  

  • Develop, write, and edit a wide variety of know-how and current awareness resources on real estate matters (including practice guidance notes, standard documents, checklists, standard clauses, and legal updates) for practicing attorney-subscribers, with a focus on California-specific resources. 

  • Monitor real estate related legal developments and legal practice trends in California and nationally, with the overarching goal of ensuring our coverage is current, accurate, and relevant.  

  • Collaborate with other Practical Law editors on content planning and priorities to meet the practice needs of California-based real estate lawyers, and to identify and develop new high-value California specific, and national, resources covering a wide variety of topics including, acquisitions, sales, and leasing of commercial real estate. 

  • Help us develop and maintain both California and national real estate resources to serve all markets.  

  • Establish and maintain relationships with external California-based real estate lawyers to find content contributors and to ensure that the real estate content is topical and meets their needs. 

  • Stay informed of current developments and issues in real estate in California, and nationally, to ensure timely updates of existing content and development of new content.  

  • Work with sales and marketing teams to promote the Practical Law Real Estate Service.  

  • Organize and conduct webinars on topics of interest to attorneys practicing in California and assist with marketing initiatives. 

  • Work remotely from home on a permanent basis. 

Candidates selected for a second interview will be required to undertake writing and editing samples. 

About You: 

You’re a fit for the role of Senior Legal Editor if you have:  

  • At least six (6) years’ recent experience working as a real estate attorney in a California law firm, including experience at either a large firm with a real estate group or a boutique firm with a sophisticated commercial real estate practice. 

  • A clear focus on real estate matters, with an emphasis on handling, drafting, and negotiating sophisticated real estate transactions in California. 

  • Actively licensed to practice in California. 

  • Strong academic credentials. 

  • Significant and broad expertise and recent practice experience in a variety of California and national real estate transactional matters, optimally including the handling of routine and complex commercial real estate acquisitions, sales, and leasing transactions. 

  • Enthusiasm and ambition, with a desire to improve the efficiency of legal services.  

  • A passion for writing and strong editing skills, including: 

  • very close attention to detail; 

  • excellent command of grammar, punctuation, and plain English;  

  • strong technical drafting skills; and 

  • the ability to write about complex legal issues clearly and simply. 

  • Self-motivated with excellent management and organizational skills to effectively track productivity and ensure product development milestones are met.   

  • Ability to constantly collaborate with and support team members in a remote environment and to operate efficiently in a remote environment without on-site technical support.
