The Reuters News technology team supports Reuters’ journalists throughout the News production lifecycle - from discovery of newsworthy events to researching the story to publication, and all that at the speed of light in an increasingly competitive landscape.  We are working to improve Reuters editorial news production and automation, and we are seeking an experienced and motivated engineer in Toronto, to help deliver this game-changing platform. About the Role

As a Software Engineer joining our team, you will be working on multiple projects developing cloud native backend services in AWS (API Gateway, Lambda, DynamoDB, Aurora) using Node.js and Java. You will also be assisting with CI/CD process and troubleshooting. Additionally, you will:

• Develop and maintain quality code, create unit tests, regression tests and fix bugs
• Create solutions across all layers of the service, including code implementation, database definition, cloud formation and deployment scripts
• Participate in design and document solutions in collaboration with team members
• Provide users with support in troubleshooting environmental and application issues

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Software Engineer if your background includes:

• 2+ yrs. in Software Development, primarily backend software development
• Experience in agile development and delivery
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability and passion to learn new technologies quickly
• Team player and self-starter
   

Preferred:

• Hands on experience in AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB)
• Hands on experience in Git, CI/CD, Shell scripting or Serverless Infrastructure
• Experience with one or more of the following programming languages – Node.js, Typescript, Java
• Experience with service-oriented and/or microservices architecture
• Experience working with relational as well as NoSQL databases
