Position summary

LOCATION: New York City, Washington, DC, Dallas, Minnesota/St. Paul

The senior manager of communications will be a part of the wider Commercial Communications and Corporate Affairs team and will serve as an ambassador, spokesperson and representative for Thomson Reuters. They will be part of a team that drives corporate brand awareness, product adoption/retention and protects the company’s reputation across all audiences and channels.

The person in this role will support communications efforts to advance our corporate brand as a leading global content-drive technology company and drive our technology and innovation storytelling. They must have proven experience in media relations, leveraging traditional media and social media to deliver results.

Experience at a global, matrixed company driving media in key markets, including the United States, is a must. They must also have enthusiasm for integrated communications to think proactively, collaborate effectively, and have a positive can-do personality to advise internal clients on communications strategies and initiatives and to roll-up-the-sleeves to execute. This role will support the promotion of Thomson Reuters products, in partnership with colleagues in other functions and across the business and support the promotion of key research and market insights on the future of professionals to support sales and brand recognition.

This includes collaborating with their commercial communications and internal communications colleagues, as well as our marketing and digital teams, to develop a consistent message for Thomson Reuters across our platforms and tied directly to our business.

The individual will identify and develop new media relationships, with emphasis on the United States, and seize communications opportunities to advance our brand as a leading content-driven technology company powering the world’s most informed professionals, as well as craft media materials and conduct strategic, creative media relations. The individual will be adept at social media management and engagement, partnering with the team’s Corporate Social Media lead to develop engaging content for corporate social media handles and dedicated content on our corporate website.

This individual is a true team player, willing to cross both external and internal communications and pitch in where needed most. The role will report to a director within the Commercial Communications and Corporate Affairs team and will include occasional broader responsibilities across the communications function.

About the Role

In this opportunity as Sr Manager, Commercial Comms & Corporate Affairs, you will: 

  • Works closely with a director of communications to enhance the reputation of the business as a leading content-driven technology company
  • Promotes and markets products, in partnership with colleagues in other functions and across the business
  • Supports promotion of research to the market, including building brand for the Future of Professionals and market insights
  • Assists with the development and execution of strategic PR plans, handle media inquiries and drive external opportunities through earned and sponsored placements
  • Coordinate PR activities for media events, trade shows, key technology conferences
  • Utilizes social media platforms to enhance and expand media reach, working effectively with both the marketing and digital teams to support brand awareness and corporate reputation
  • Supports a diverse set of external communications projects with a focus on technology and innovation. Drafts speeches, news releases, blog posts, reports, white papers, scripts, etc.
  • Media list development, media analysis and monitoring of relevant company, competitor and industry coverage and activity
  • Consults with marketing, product and technology teams in order to develop and deliver corporate messages to both external and internal mediums.
  • Acts in a professional manner and in the company's best interests at all times

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Sr Manager, Commercial Comms & Corporate Affairs if your background includes:

  • 7+ years of experience in communications, journalism or related role; proven media relations experience a must
  • Agency, government, or large-scale corporate background (technology, SaaS preferred)
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of AI and ML, cloud, APIs, user experience and product design, and IT required
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, highly matrixed corporate environment
  • Proven experience advising senior executives, and supporting them at external events – media, conferences, sponsorships, customer engagements
  • Knowledge of digital communications and marketing tools (i.e., social media, web and mobile platforms, data analytics, etc.)
  • Excellent writing skills and the ability to take complex technical matters and distill it into creative storytelling copy on tech and innovation
  • The ability to direct, align, inform and influence senior leaders and others to execute a digital communications strategy
  • Must be an excellent writer, have proven public relations credentials and demonstrable experience driving long-term brand, product and corporate reputation campaigns
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and projects to accomplish commercial objectives of the business
  • Strong attention to detail a must – ensures accuracy of communications
  • Skilled at planning, project management and time management
  • Additional languages advantageous
  • International work experience preferred
