Reuters is looking for an experienced and highly motivated journalist to lead its India political and general news team at a pivotal moment for the country.
India is headed to a general election by 2024 after two consecutive terms for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is remaking the nation of 1.4 billion people with policy decisions that have endeared him to the party's Hindu nationalist base but which have stoked concern for the country's minority Muslims. His government has also advocated a tough national security posture with regard to traditional foe Pakistan, but also giant neighbour China, risking an escalation of long-standing territorial disputes.
The successful candidate will lead a small team to deliver ambitious and insightful stories for a global audience, planning news coverage and pitching original and engaging story ideas to top editors. You will be able to frame stories in ways that capture the significance of Indian political developments for all Reuters major client groups, from professional investors to our millions of dotcom readers.
You will be an excellent communicator and collaborator, working closely with colleagues across Reuters on how government policy impacts business, the economy and the environment, a critical issue for the country which has some of the world’s most polluted cities.
You will be a self-starter, team player and an ideas generator with strong writing skills and a working knowledge of Hindi. Previous leadership experience is an advantage, including hands-on experience of dealing with security issues surrounding staff deployments.
