Position summary

Technical Lead, Cloud Storage Engineering

The Thomson Reuters Technical Lead, Cloud Storage Engineering position is accountable for the overall initiation, transition and on-going maintenance and support of Cloud Storage services to the business. The position reports to the Manager, Cloud Storage Engineering who is accountable for the overall service which is delivered through a combination of internal TR employees and external service providers (SP). 

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

In this role you will provide technical leadership and hands on development of features and tools used by the Cloud Storage engineering team. Additionally, you will work directly with our Storage Architect to deliver a set of Cloud Storage services to Thomson Reuters product teams. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate strong technical aptitude and interest in learning new technologies. While we have historically maintained a strong on-premises presence, The Cloud Storage team is primarily focused on Cloud technology going forward.

About the Role

In this opportunity as Technical Lead, Cloud Storage Engineering, you will:

Technical Leadership (60%) 

  • Be Accountable for the Cloud Storage services to the business users
  • Work with various external vendors to progress our technology and service requirements
  • Ensure that the on-going service delivery and support meet or exceed IHN service objectives
  • Work with internal stakeholders in the organization to understand and translate customer requirements into service changes or improvements and ensure overall service meets those requirements
  • Ensure consistent and appropriate communication with customer(s) for service-related enquiries and issues
  • Serve as a point of escalation (notification) for major incidents relating to the service

Strategy and Technology (40%)

  • Support the team’s development and engineering initiatives as directed by the team’s manager, conducting regular task assignment and review, identifying obstacles, and remediating blockers
  • Be in conjunction with the team’s manager, facilitate and manage the team’s engineering backlog in tandem with the Storage Architect
  • Conduct regular planning meetings with relevant stakeholders for roadmap and new technology development
  • Design and maintain Cloud Storage governance processes including standards management, team operating procedures, and cost optimization
  • Identify opportunities for service improvements, communicate standards and change to internal business users

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Technical Lead, Cloud Storage Engineering if your background includes:

  • Bachelor of Computer Science or related field; or equivalent level of experience
  • 6+ years progressive technology experience
  • Strongly prefer candidates with either Cloud or Cloud Storage development and administration experience
  • Strongly prefer candidates with AWS experience plus working knowledge of at least one other cloud provider.

Prefer candidates with general systems administration experience (Linux/Windows)

Required Skills

  • Being passionate about developing highly performant, scalable and resilient cloud native solutions.
  • Experience in delivering code for active Cloud services/projects.
  • Experience with cloud technologies and platforms such as AWS or Azure and use their APIs and configuration tools including CloudFormation.
  • Program at a high level in at least one language such as: Java, C#, Javascript, Python or Ruby
  • Understanding of ISCSI, SMB, NFS, and SFTP protocols and data storage in general.

Desired Skills

  • Understanding backup technologies and approaches to backing up data in cloud and on-prem.
  • Have proven skills analyzing and troubleshooting complex systems configurations.
  • Have experience in Storage data migrations both on-premises and from on-premises to cloud-based solutions.
  • Have experience in Storage data replication techniques using SnapMirror, Snapvault, Data motion, DoubleTake, DataSync etc.
  • Apply an evidence-based approach to solving service problems in real time to provide the fastest path to recovery.
  • Strong familiarity with storage concepts such a blocks, files, and objects.
  • Experience with object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms and can create and follow coding practices and standards.
  • Experience in an agile/lean development framework like Scrum.
  • Familiarity with software build and testing using tools like Jenkins.
  • General cloud DevOps skills.
