Role Summary
As a UX Engineer on the UX Engineering team, you’ll work closely with designers, software engineers, content strategists, accessibility specialists, product owners, and researchers to develop, grow, and maintain our global design system. You may also work on a side project initiative in addition to project work.
About the Role
As a UX Engineer, you will:
Create and build: Have deep experience with responsive UI design methodology and processes (user-centered and iterative design). Translate design language into a reusable code library. Create scalable and accessible components. Implement brand and animation standards. Document and communicate with project teams.
Be part of a collaborative team: Work closely with the UX Designers, Accessibility Specialists, Content Strategists, and UX Researchers in a collaborative team-oriented environment to create, test, and support HTML/SASS components and static UI patterns. Use tools to speed up development across our entire organization. Advocate for the user’s needs while developing features that align to the needs of the user.
Be an Effective Communicator: Share ideas, participate in peer reviews, and exhibit strong listening skills. Justify and articulate development decisions during code reviews. You participate in brainstorming sessions with product teams and can share outcomes using excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Be Curious & Innovative: Continuously learning next-generation user experiences, and technology, and contributing to process development practices. Turn user research and usability feedback into easy-to-use solutions. Gather, analyze, and synthesize UX needs for complex product and user requirements.
About You
You’re a fit for this role if you have:
Basic qualifications:
Minimum 2+ years of experience developing large, complex front-end web applications
Bachelor's degree is preferred; an Associate degree in a technology-related field and/or experience may be considered
Familiarity with working in an Agile development environment
Knowledge of web standards and accessibility (W3C and WCAG 2.1 AA), interaction design, and user-centered design principles
Portfolio of work - demonstration of skillset
Knowledge of CSS-driven layouts and manipulating the DOM
Ability to create production-quality CSS, SASS, and semantic HTML for complex web applications with support for mobile and tablet devices
Implement browser-independent designs and fix cross-browser issues (Chrome, Firefox, IE, Safari) on all platforms
Design experience with a focus on design tenants, aesthetics, and detail
Preferred qualifications:
Modular CSS, SASS mixins and functions
Knowledge of accessibility standards, WCAG compliance, and accessible feature development
Developing mobile and accessible features for customer-facing products and tablet devices
Understanding of Web Components, React, and Angular frameworks
Ability to follow technical specifications and production processes
Ability to create and update design tokens
Ability to adjust graphics and create/optimize graphic assets as needed to complete designs
Ability to work with source/version control software
Aptitude to understand and build SEO/semantic solutions
Understand iconography and SVG graphics and performance
